Smileyman - thank you for your comment, we’re glad to hear that you’re enjoying the series! Hopefully you were able to apply some of this information in your rides this year! - Coach Kagen
Hi Simon, as a beginner MTB'er your videos are some of the best on KZitem, and your teaching is very clear and concise. Just curious about the two different schools of thought regarding level feet vs. outside feet down. As a road cyclist, I'm used to dropping the outside feet. However, I'm getting conflicting information from different instructional videos about keeping feet level in a corner (otherwise bike wants to stand up), vs dropping the outside feet and being dynamic (like a skier carving a turn). Why are there such two conflicting views on cornering? thanks!

Honestly I have no idea! If you watch top riders you will see footwork all the time other than on really steep berms where the bike is perpendicular to the ground. I've heard from some other coaches that 'level feet' it easier to teach, but it's just flat out incorrect - in most corners. We just teach what the best riders in the world do - it's how I created this system of teaching. Footworks is spectrum, so we don't always go all the way down with the outside foot but it should always have more pressure than the inside foot. And, thanks for the kind words Jiyang! -Simon

I admittedly sent a email on your training website, asking the difference between putting your strong foot forward on turns versus what you said in the sample video switching feet and now I see that it is shallow firms versus I’m assuming deeper berms or higher berms, however, you refer properly. What makes us determine shallow versus non-shallow berms? Thank you.

@@mik.e.o No worries! It's right by the clearing but really not obvious. It's the entrance to Braveheart, the black XC trail. It's just to the left of the HLC drop-in. Perfect for practicing, next time you hit up Duthie!

Confused 🤔 Do you not pressure and drop the inside foot? Wouldn’t the opposite make the bike want to stand up instead of lean?
@Fluidride
3 жыл бұрын
No. That will make the bike slide out. It would also block your outside hip from rotating. Try standing on your right foot and turning right (while walking) for example and you will notice that just does not work. Pressuring the outside foot too soon will stand the bike up, but doing it in the turn will not, as it will already have initiated its lean into the turn prior. Hope this helps! -Simon

This is marketing material not actual training. Linnea is COO of Fluidride and a pro racer so the progression that is being portrayed is suspect. I'm fairly certain that she has this basic knowledge going in to these videos. Not that you're hiding it as its easy enough to find but disclose this info up front and avoid suspicion.

This is true that Linnea is COO- she joined the team this summer when we started filming this! But all of this learning is real. Linnea has been racing at the pro level locally, but with almost no formal training. Having ridden in PNW berms primarily, she actually rode every corner with level feet and had never dropped an outside foot in a corner before this year. She was regularly washing out in flat corners, and is very timid on bigger air skills. So, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to document her progress since others likely struggle with the same thing. That being said, this is still not a beginner series by any means so we're actually going to release one soon with brand new rider for people that aren't starting at Linnea's level. We definitely appreciate your comment; we'll call this out so people know it's all real. Thanks for this feedback, it's really helpful!
