How can you rise above anger? Is it the ability to not be angry at all no matter how much the other person hurts or intimidates you? Or is it the ability to suppress your anger? If it is the former then how do you reach a state of overcoming anger?
The ultimate goal with rising above anger is its natural transformation into an emotion that will give you inner strength. If you are suppressing your anger then it is going through your head and it will cause you damage. The chances are that you are suppressing your anger because you have no choice. When you do have a choice, most people express their anger. It is definitely not the ability to suppress. The goal is to be able to transform your emotion until you eradicate it completely. Until you eliminate it, you need to be able to transform it.
The question is how to get to a state in which you do not get angry at all. As long as you have attachments whether you are attached to people, possessions, ideas or philosophy, you have reasons to be angry. When you are attached to something and it does not behave the way you want it to or if it does not function the way you want it to function or when it goes outside your frame, it will cause agitation.
