It's interesting because I didn't consider Cinder all that interesting as a character as I did with Adam, so seeing her come back didn't really excite me. And after that happening, I feel like there's a chance she'll be killed off before the big finale anyway, because where is her character progression really going? They might have had that same thought process with Adam, however we didn't TECHNICALLY see him die. We saw him get stabbed and then fall off a cliff, but nothing after that. Him making a return wouldn't be all that surprising, though I doubt he'll have that same spunk that you could see in him a few volumes ago. At the end of the day, RWBY has a lot of interesting ideas but many of them are poorly executed. Bad decisions have been made, and honestly a lot of things are predictable now. While I enjoy Monty Oum's work, I can't really enjoy what they've done to it after his passing. It's a shame, really.

Tbh, I just think that the show is a victim of flanderization. All of the characters that had room to grow under Monty are now acting on traits that were pretty minor during the first few seasons. Qrow's drunkeness was treated as a bad habit in the first few seasons, with hints that there was something more that caused him to drink. Now his entire character is based on the fact that he's a drunk. Ruby's character trait was that she was naive, and the direction the initial seasons were taking implied that this was a trait that would be fleshed out as she went into the wider world and understood what it actually meant to be a huntsman. Now her character is just as a naive with all that potential growth taken away. It really shows a lack of care and understanding for the central characters of the story.

The SDC scar reveal was brilliant but it was ruined when Adam said that despite all the hardships and pain he faced Blake was the one who hurt him the most. I mean are they for real?! The guy was literally treated like a freaking animal, even property, and branded but Blake running away was the worst thing to ever happen to him. that was just awful. The worst part is that his character was changed so much that the scene would have played out the same whether the SDC mark was there or not. This mark is nothing but a reminder of how the character could have been. Also I really hope this doesn't become a trend; killing villains as soon as they start to become really interesting. They did it to Roman just after he said his best line and now did it to Adam after he revealed his scar. If they kill cinder right after we learn he true motives for wanting power, I'll be really mad.

After endless time spent mulling over this and arguing angrily with fans on youtube, I've come to a conclusion regarding Adam. I think that for the most part regardless of whether you believe that "Adam was always like this" as some folks argue, the one thing I note is that, him always being the character he is post V3 is objectively a worse idea. The real question I see some folks seem to miss isn't "was he always like this," but rather, "is this a good idea?" Objectively, no, making him the character he ended up being was a terrible idea. If he was always a monstrous person with a killboner (as some argue), then why join a pacifistic movement? He was around in the White Fang when it was still a nonviolent movement. If he was always that sort of violent, selfish person, why would he join a cause that used peaceful protest? It doesn't make logical sense that someone would join a pacifist movement in the hopes of killing people. Plus, the problem with conveying him as "always like this" rather than "then let me be evil" is that in the end it makes him a character with no charisma, no personal belief beyond being a bland mustache twirling monster, like almost every other villain in the show. He ends up with no depth, no concept of a long term plan, simply living in his immediate moment rather than pushing towards any kind of goal. He has nothing to aspire to, which puts him in the position of a "minion" level personality. His leadership of the White Fang was simply so he could evade punishment for V3, nothing more. The problem with combining Beast and Gaston, is that they took none of those redeeming qualities from either character. Gaston was a prideful but skilled person, confident and charismatic, but underneath that he was a particularly malicious person who's selfishness put him in a dark place. The Beast was a sympathetic but bitter person who's hateful and cold demeanor is a result of a mix of self-loathing and selfishness, pain and despair buried underneath, who eventually grows to be a better person as a person manages to get past his defenses with gentle kindness. Because Adam is neither charismatic in his dialogue or interactions (Hiding his evil underneath) nor misunderstood or sympathetic (where his evil is necessary) he becomes little more than a milquetoast villain. Instead of being an ambiguous villain that stands out among the cast of villains who've sided willingly with the omnicidal main villain with his own agenda, he's merely a puppet of the real antagonist. What would've been more interesting is that him and Sienna were the pair in a romantic relationship instead, where Sienna is the one pushing harder for more and more extreme methods and eventually leading Adam to questioning whether or not he's still doing the right thing. After all, Sienna is the one who praises Adam in the Adam short for killing an enemy, and logically from there it would be interesting to see her using him to rise in the White Fang and take the leader position from Ghira. Overall, disregarding politics, interpretations or talks about monty's vision, the character we got overall is just a character that doesn't really add anything to the story. It doesn't really say anything about the characters, or the themes in the show. It simply says "racists and abusers are bad people."

What they should have done is this, if they want too keep Adam in the story here what they should due. First drop that abusive boy friend BS about Adam and Blake the relationship should be simply a master and student one. 2nd Adam's past should be explored more from his time before he was caught humans, too his branding and slavery. He should be a man disillusioned and filled with anger and he wants too take it out on the humans. He joined the white Fang thinking they were a group that can deliver justice too Faunes kind, however he comes too realize the White Fang as it is. Weak too the core which pushed him too butt heads with then leader Ghira. Sienna would then radicalize Adam saying that the path too peace is always stained in blood which would lead the white Fang too a dark path. 3rd Adam should have beaten Yang & Blake, like this As he was about too kill Yang Blake then stood in front of him. Adam would say why defend a Human. An Blake says she would give her life too protect humans and that not all humans are what she and adam have thought they were. Adam confused on the matter does not know how too respond too his student an can't kill blake. Instead he leaves them thinking what then. Last We see Adam arriving at Atlas at a Schnee Dust company mine seeing Faunes being abused, Adam comes too his own conclusion the faunes he led those not know true suffering, and injustice. What he a many other felt he comes into a conclusion that he need too create a world were faunes can be free from oppression. Too due that he need an army for his revolution. So he rushes down and kills all the guards. An free all the slaves, he gives out a speech too them about the failures of faunes leaders, how they were left too die, and the human oppressors he states, that they must fight back against those that have wronged them and bring forth peace through blood. He would then create a "New White Fang" and cause a Faunes Civil war, aswell as on humans starting with the Schnee Dust company. An there thats what they should have done too Adam. A man lost too his ideals an beliefs, yet sympathetic due too his painful life and what made him what he is. Turn him into a revolutionary and would make him a great charecter.

@@silentecho92able It would have been nice if at some point he had learned and understood that Weiss was against his family and hoping that fauns would become equals with humans. The Fall of Beacon is where he really starts hamming it up and only gets more and more pathetic with each subsequent appearance. i think i'm safe in two assumptions, M&K have no clue how to write a fantasy adventure story and they don't know how to write villains: Torchwick was cliche and cartoonish yet charming and dynamic, a man willing to cheat anyone to get to his goals and yet through his relationship with Neo (the fact they have chemistry, Neo cares for him enough to mourn) tells us that Roman had heart enough to love or care for someone whom he identified with in Neo. Which isn't reaching, Neo's envolvment in the plot as of volume 6 hinges on her having a deeper relationship with Roman that is implied through their chemistry when we see them fight together. With M&K villains are just, Cinder is just evil for power and despite her loses is still cocky like she didn't get beat twice by one a deus ex machina the hero can now actively control and two a coward, Hazel is literally every beefy antagonist ever with a contradictory backstory in regards to what he does now (the fans think he's deep), Tyrian is a cackling nutjob who worships the ground his superior walks on, Merc and Em are meh, Adam is a creep who instead of leading what faunus he has on well calculated attacks bends over backwords for a human cause and later slaughters his own men when people aren't 100 percent down with his seemingly flimsy views when they see him side with humans of course their gonna doubt the "humans are evil" guy leading them. Now i know they have seemingly deep villains but characters are only as great as how their handled, Salem, instead of just being the physical embodiment of the threat the grimm pose, a woman who perhaps mettled in grimm and human genetic splicing only for her experiments to backfire so bad she found herself more like a grimm over time and so did they or rather the ones she was able to reproduce through scientific means (curiousity getting the better of rationality) is an evil which who upon closer inspection is angry at the gods for cursing her with the gift of immortality and Ozpin for breaking up with her and trying to take the kids whom she would later kill in anger, the main big bad is legit an angry spoiled ex girl friend who can't even find four magical artifacts and four woman despite her seemingly endless resources influence and time to do so. The same can even be said for Ruby or any of the protagonists, what does RWBY want, to be a huntsman like in the books she read, doesn't graduate Beacon and is still by the people at large considered a huntress to the point she can just call herself one and it's okay, society at large has no penalties for pretending to be a certified huntress or even for not having a huntress license like Qrow does (so a license must legally be important in this society) She then later gets the ability to freeze grimm (the same threat we're told is mankinds greatest foe) and thus make them very easy to kill as if they weren't easily dispached enough by CoCo, Qrow, Pyrrha, Glynda, any of the villains, a farm boy, and Jaune, fucking JAUNE. Anyway, Ruby gets her goal in life practically handed to her by way of surprise adventure, thrust into the job of her dreams only to find it's harder then she thought, luckily she has like 10 friends helping her out at any given time otherwise her journey would actually be hard. In Harry Potter, Harry has two main allies, Ron his brother of sorts and Hermione a literal genius wizard by others admittance who mind you is a mud blood ae, non magical parents, Ron brings his general knowledge of wizarding artifacts, a few magical odds and ends and mean chess skills to the table, all things Harry lacks and can't progress without; Hermione bring her almost pathological knowledge of spells, Hogwarts and her gifted talent with those spells to the table, sometimes proving even more effective then Harry himself; Harry's companions make him better by bringing to the table things he does not have nor can he progress without they are needed. Whereas with Ruby Rose, she either magically acquires new friends when seperated from her team or can very well solve most problems on her own with ease, she pretty much single handedly stops the fall of Beacon by one, stopping Roman and Neo and two defeating both the dragon Grimm and Cinder in one go. Meanwhile Yang gets her arm cut off, Blake runs away and Weiss while helping her friends defeat fodder bots even Velvet can kill she's taken by her father back to Atlas. What i mean is nothing is lost if Ruby isn't a part of a team or not, she is arguably more effective on her own especially now where she's a literal walking deus ex machina. You could switch out Jaune for Weiss and nothing would change, Ruby is still as capable as she was before, you could switch out Ren for Blake and Ruby still does not change in terms of skill, you could change out Nora for Yang and they arguably have more cynergy then characters who are literally sisters and train together. Hell you could even say that RNJR is even more effective what with Ren and Jaune's semblances working together. For a protagonist that is not only all about her friends but her powers literally draw from them, one could easily argue she does not need them to progress on her journey, none of the villains aren't any less fodder enough to stop her not unless they nerf Ruby so the villains can all gang up on her

Adam was supposed to be all about the cause. Every scene and comment we had about him prior to Heroes and Monsters implied that much, so I've never understood this argument some people use that we never really knew anything about him - our expectations were raised by the show itself, it was not some headcanon or delusion. I sure as hell didn't see Blake jump in joy in the Black trailer when she left the White Fang despite getting away from this apparently abusive relationship. Not saying that KRWBY can't salvage Adam as a decent character even with the approach they took with him if they do it right, but it doesn't change that Adam took a huge turn with Heroes and Monsters and didn't become the character he was meant to be.

After volume 3 he lost his mind unrealistically fast and for some reason went lost his cool collective personality as he became more deranged for no logical reason. Volume 4 we had little to no Adam, Volume 5 Adam killed the high leader to gain more support with no argument from the White Fang, then he ordered Blakes parents to be killed due to their ability to influence the Faunus. He attacked Haven Academy and was not hunting Blake after the White Fang failed to bring her back to him so he can finish her off. Suddenly after he narrowly escapes the cesspool that was the volume 5 finale, The White Fang (some how) completely knows that he ran away from Haven while 7 to 8 White fang members got arrested. Upon getting this information the White Fang stage a completely unjustified and illogical coup not because Adam tried to blow his own men up, but because he "abandoned his brothers at haven after being sassed by the belladonna girl." Adam enraged by Blake goes on a suicide mission and instead of doing something interesting in Atlas, Adam dies to Yang and Blake in the woods after being heavily nerfed since volume 3 (Cause he appeared to be on a whole nother level then them). Seriously, it's so bad how Adam's character was treated. Especially because his role in the world of RWBY is so much bigger than the show makes him out to be. He's the face of the White Fang! A terrorist group that uses acts of violence to liberate the Faunus. RWBY makes such a big deal out of Faunus discrimination almost every Volume, and so by extension the White Fang and Adam are made a big deal of. They steal dust, they've killed board members of the Schnee Dust Company, they were involved with the Fall of Beacon, etc. The White Fang have committed crimes that have an effect on the whole world. And so having Adam, the leader of this organization, focus an abnormally amount of time on his ex-girlfriend diminishes the threat of the White Fang, and by extension their attempts to liberate the Faunus. I know people have made comments about it before, but the whole Faunus racism RWBY tries to push is now literally a joke. And with Volume 6 you can really tell the writers are doing everything they could to write out the whole Faunus movement from the show. The new White Fang is being led by Blake's parent's off screen, Ilia stays behind in Mistral, Adam kills off the rest of his army, Adam dies. Granted, it makes sense since Blake is back with team RWBY on their quest that has literally nothing to do with the Faunus movement, and the whole White Fang thing was solely Blake's arc. But there lies the problem. It's ONLY Blake's problem, yet it takes up a good chunk of the overall series. They tried branching out the threat of Adam and such to other characters like Yang, but now I can see that's just to ship Bumblebee. Why doesn't the White Fang/Adam go after Weiss? The Heiress to the Schnee Dust Company that everyone should know attends Beacon Academy? The daughter of the company that literally scarred Adam? The White Fang Lieutenant from Volume 2 has more of a grudge against Weiss than Adam ever did! Why doesn't Ruby ever see or ask about the guy who took her sister's arm? The man who made her big sister suffer from PTSD (for whatever little that may have lasted)? The White Fang and Adam have affected team RWBY and the remainder of team JNPR by now with the Fall of Beacon, but they're still only relegated to Blake and whatever love interest she's with at the time. And since the writers clearly know this, they decided to make Adam into an insane, stalker ex-boyfriend who is only focused on Blake and nothing else. The scar does not make me care anymore for Adam since he immediately dies after, along with the White Fang.

I first noticed the male characters in rwby suck when I compared their semblances to the female’s. Most, of not all the female semblances are over powered, whereas the male semblances are mostly supportive, situational, weak, or in the case of Mercury nonexistent. There are exceptions though. Sun’s, and Reinhardt’s is ok, but Adam has the most powerful semblance of the male characters. And now he’s dead.

You know, there's a lot of points I agree with you here and there's some I never thought about it. Adam is one of my favorite character and a person which I can relate pretty easily, or at least I can understand more than any other character in the show. I sensed changes but I just went along with it, I wasn't even a writter two years back so I simply couldn't judge how a character was written. But last episode just made me feel totally awkward as I ended up willing Adam to actually win. I was excepting so much, I had huge hope on a developpement. After last episode, I talked about it with the community and realized how much it is toxic indeed, I got bashed so hard for liking Adam as a character AND a person. He could and should have be so much better than that pathethic abusive and low person they tried to show us in the end. What happened just feels off and wrong, and I never thought I'd say that and I hate it since I used to love this series, but V6 was a pain in the ass to watch, and the last events is a huge no.

Even tough it was proved to be fake, now I can't work anymore in any kid related job :))) so yeah, my life got destroyed mostly by one person and some lies, and I proudly say I can relate to Adam on that. To me he was supposed to be a dedicated character to his cause, Blake was his world, and she just ran after using violence aka highly intend that she killed someone.
@TomSpeeddraw
5 жыл бұрын
@@jct876 Adam didn't even try to find Blake in V3, they simply met by coincidence. When he talks about how he feels, about the cause, she goes with the peace-shit delusionnal thing, so he slaps her. Don't know if I'd do that in his position, never crossed my mind to slap a woman, but I assume he tries to wake her from it. And then I realized something. Adam, in all his encounters with Blake, never tried once to actually kill her. He's probably the most aware of Blake's semblance, and she use it in V3 to run slowly, he doesn't even go after her, he's letting her go. In V5, he says to his men to not shoot. By rage it looks like he rush in, and even though he's one of the fastest character in RWBY universe, Blake suddendly gets faster than him and he gets stomped. This strengthens my theory about Adam doing this on purpose, being the bad guy and showing the world what can happens if you push around people too much. V6 is a bit more complicated since, well, the poor writting of the whole volume. From my point of view, Adam lost everything, his cause, his home, his life, his love, because of Blake at that moment. So, he has a choice to make. He tries to get the white fang back, he goes on a one man army rampage against Atlas, or he goes after Blake to confront her. Second option, and wow what do we have here. He could have cut Blake in half at any point in his fight, but he just hit her with the pommel and destroys her weapon. Yang go in and Adam gets serious immediately, we instantly see the difference in his style. Sadly for his iaido style, he's weak against close range style since you want to control the distance and stay at mid-range. It's like being a tall person boxing against a small person. Adam is enough powerful to get the advantage in this match up, praise to him. My theory about his burning face was close, it adds something to the character. He even admit that she's the one that hurted him the most. That says a lot about him, that makes him more human. He could have chosen his cause, his revenge, but he choose Blake. But there goes something that has no sense. He used his semblance twice, the second time with full power, on Yang, that blocks it with her metal arm. That's just bullshit. Adam can cut / desintegrated a whole tank from Atlas. Her arm isn't even protected by aura, and it barely strach it ? Adam came to confront Blake in the first place, so he gets angry and assume that bumblebee is canon (which is probably not, Yang stated in V1 that she was into boys, so at best she's bi, but RT you know). He goes full rampage and Yang catch his sword. She dares to say that she's smarter, that's bs again, you don't want to do that in a fight, especially not a fantasy one where the dude can desintegrate you with a single strike, her arm shouldn't even be there in the first place. There's a tons of ways to disarm a swordman, even barehanded, but this one pal, isn't one. She previously said that his semblance was cheap. That's bs too, there's no such thing as cheap semblance. If he's semblance seems so powerful, that's because he trained more than anyone. Ozpin stated earlier that semblance could grow and evolve. He's better because he tried harder. Things escalate, we learn something else about Adam when we hear him screams horrified when Yang throw away his blade. I wasn't excepting that it was something precious to him. There's potential there. Adam turns dumb and go after gamble shroud, mh, okay, that could happend why not, I mean it's not like he fought previously with his sheath...wait :)) Then comes the closure, we already pointed out that Blake already killed, so I wasn't too much surprised that she stabs him, but Yang, from behind. I wasn't prepare for this. I mean, Adam is disarmed, no aura, you could basically win just by punching him. But Yang went for the kill. I wasn't happy with how Yang was depicted as a character in V6, felt too different from her previous vibe, even though she has always been arrogant and all. But that's another story

All these people going "hurr durr head cannon" just completely ignore people's points. I've seen multiple people bring up Adam's characterization from earlier episodes and how it set up expectations of something completely different than what we got. That's not head cannon, that's the writer's setting up expectations, and then completely betraying them as well as flat out changing the character. They also talk about the potential of Adam being a morally gray terrorist because, unlike what we got, it had potential to be a very interesting storyline. The people saying he was always meant to be a crazy abusive ex who only existed to further Blake and Yang don't seem to realize that that's actually so much worse than "head cannons", because it means he and the entire white fang were literally nothing more than plot devices for shipping.

There needs to be coalitions in writing teams, where people focus on characters and understand them. Understand why they exist, if they should live or be in the story, their motive, their personality, their power level. Adam has 2 motivations Blake and the faunus revolution, he exists to give character to blake as well as drive the white fang. He should've continued to be in the story because he *was* an interesting villain with a very cool fighting style. He played a major role in the plot then he was degraded to a throw away character to kill off. The only purpose killing him had was bumbleBY...

If he had reached the weapon first, he could have stabbed the aura-less Blake and turned to Yang to keep fighting. What you probably don't like is that he doesn't get more screen-time, just like with the rest of the Konoha crew. Which is understandable. The way Naruto handles its supporting cast will always be one of the show's biggest negatives. However, that's not the same as the Adam situation. Not even close. All cool designs dragged down by bad backstories or writing decisions: in ozpin's case it's the fact Oscar only really exists to keep ozpin in the plot, in Salem's case it's how angry ex house wife her backstory feels, like i can't take the struggle seriously when it boils down to a guy who couldn't handle his woman, RWBY is literally a super powered couples council with gun swords; if that interests you then you have very low standards for quality in the media you partake in.

His course of action honestly makes sense. Blake established that he changed, and changed, and changed, and his trajectory can be seen. He was righteous until he started becoming violent (claiming accidents). He was devastated when Blake left, and all he had left was the white fang and a Cinder that was bending his arm; this likely pushed him further and further out until he was unrecognizable. Then after Volume 5, it makes sense that a portion of the White Fang would turn on him, so he now blames Blake for that and wanted to get revenge. The fight with Yang made sense. Yeah, he was powerful, but the key difference between this fight and Volume 3 was that Yang was not powered up by the time she fought Adam. She IS smarter in the Volume 6 fight; she powered up this time, so Adam couldn’t just overpower her anymore.

Welp, might as well leave this here, A nice long list from one of my friends that perfectly sums up why Adam dying isn't as big a deal as everybody wants it to be: 1. Yang and Blake have always been the main characters of this arc, not Adam, and therefore them finding closure is more important than Adam getting character development. Adam has never been anything but a side character to their arc. 2. Adam isn’t just a villain, he isn’t just Blake’s abusive ex-boyfriend, but a character who’s specifically meant to portray abuse, and that portrayal is painfully accurate. Adam is an abuser. Adam is in the wrong when it comes to everything he did to Blake. Blake is the victim here, and she isn’t to blame for anything Adam did. She didn’t abandon him, she escaped him. Their relationship is abusive, he uses the power he has over her, physically and mentally, and at that point his feelings don’t matter anymore, and it doesn’t matter anymore if her escaping him has hurt him. Adam is the bad one here, because not everything is a washed out shade of grey, sometimes there are situations where it is black and white. 3. RWBY is a show about female characters, with arcs written to empower women. The show just doesn’t have the typical sword-wielding male character who is manly and badass and never shows emotions. Adam was never supposed to be that kind of character, and his purpose was never for viewers to project their power fantasies onto him. RWBY was never that kind of show. 4. Only because people expected Adam to be this or that doesn’t mean this is what he was originally supposed to be, and using Monty’s name to excuse your hate against Miles and Kerry is really fucked up. The issue is that people play down or excuse Adam’s abuse, and therefore also excuse what happens with real people out there. The issue is that people make the story about him and take it away from the female main characters. The issue is that people can’t accept that their male power fantasy got his ass kicked by strong women. The issue is the misogyny and homophobia involved. Adam wasn't some misunderstood individual in need of redemption, and his death was well deserved. GET OVER IT.

I guess I'll do the same as well. 1. Adam isn't a main character though it's the treatment of his character that's the problem, not even the fact that he died but how it was handled is the issue. Side-Characters are more important than you think and make the story and it's world much more enjoyable by their inclusion, Could you imagine RWBY if it was only the 4 girls and random villains? or Fire Emblem / Persona with only the playable cast and main protagonists? A side-character with depth is personally more important than a main character lacking it. 2. Seemingly, Adam wasn't made to be portrayed to be an abusive partner, but rather different viewpoints on the same issue, Someone who wanted true equality and someone who after experiencing the worst humans could have done to Faunus, feels no remorse to killing them, You could argue the abusive narrative wasn't even a thing until post-monty, since up until then Blake has referenced Adam in a different way than one would for an abusive ex. The problem was, the narrative shifted from a Gray issue on prejudice to a black and white one on Abuse, There is nothing wrong with the latter but they changed a character who wasn't meant for that position into one. 3. The two don't really have anything to do with one another, You can have a strong male character in a show about strong females too, I don't get where "projecting their power fantasies onto him" is coming from but that isn't even the issue that Regular Dude brought up, his original motive was a unclear view on killing humans for faunus rights, this would still work if Adam was female, this was the case with Ilia, I wouldn't be surprised if Adam's original character arc was discarded and given to Ilia. 4. It isn't a hate for Miles & Kerry, but we do know that Monty's views have been denied by RT before, though I don't see Shane's Letter as gospel, various VAs and Monty's Wife add in to it's validity, there is also the fact the character change was black and white and the end of Volume 3 has seemingly been scrapped, Nobody is downplaying abuse, but they stuffed it poorly onto a character that seemed to not have that trait at all, The problem isn't "Is it ok for Adam to be abusive?" it's "What happened to Adam?" I cannot see anything about him prior to monty's passing to picture him as abusive. People can accept that male power fantasies get their asses kicked by strong women because we've had that with many other characters before with universal praise. I don't see ANYONE being upset that Mercury or Tyrian got knocked on their asses. The problem isn't people are upset about Strong Women, Power Fantasies, LGBT Representation or anything, the problem was they took a character who wasn't made for an allegory of abusive into one, This is the reason why people complained about Volume 4 & 5's treatment of Ruby, not because they dislike women but they made the protagonist who just discovered her powers a backseat in favor for Blake's arc, or how Yang's PTSD was added but never explored, outside of one nightmare and her hand twitching often, she was the same throughout, it feels disheartening if they're adding such things not to give an audience experiencing them a positive role model but to treat it as a checklist.

@@joeshroom8482 He was ALWAYS meant to be seen as an abusive partner, that's all. It was pretty evident from the beginning and the way he treated Blake. By this point he'd pretty much showing his true colors to everyone and had nothing left but blaming everyone but himself for his actions.

Except that isn't the case, if it was, Adam would have abandoned the mission to chase after Blake, he would have stalked her down and attacked her instead of staying with The White Fang and fighting for Faunus Rights, even when confronted with Cinder who tried to persuade him he was clearly against it, while the Adam later on wouldn't hesitate to trade in his fellow Faunus for more power. The actions of Past Adam aren't the same with Present Adam, even Blake described Adam in a different way, as someone who wanted a world that wasn't perfect for everyone, someone who genuinely wanted Faunus to be free from Human Oppression and not a clingy, abusive boyfriend, The actions and how Past Adam and Present Adam would assess a situation is different, and there isn't room for Adam to "Pretend" to be different in the past when he clearly has a vendetta against Humans, as he suffered from them first hand and even without Blake by his side stayed true to his goals. To me, seeing Miles vocal about disliking Adam and how the shift in character being at the flip of the switch shows me that Miles' version of Adam is just a different person fundamentally.

@@joeshroom8482 If that were the case then he wouldn't have treated Blake like a traitor considering the fact that he would have known he was going too far himself. And yet he did. Newsflash, abusers are good at hiding their motives behind excuses.

@@darknessrising2453 Blake would have been a traitor anyway, either to The Black Fang or himself personally in either scenario as betraying a cause he and others are fighting their lives for would be unforgivable, this was the case for other white fang members too. Adam had no reason to hide his abuse, Blake didnt see him as such until Monty's passing and prior to that Blake leaving would be covered by her betraying it, and again, they're well aware Adam is willing to kill humans, which is extreme as it is.

Ruin? I think you mean write a character in a different way than the fans HOPED it would go after seeing him for the first time. Before volume 3 there was literally nothing about Adam to go on except for a few of Blake's lines in which she claims he was someone that grew unstable and cruel as time went on. But when fans first saw him they immediately wanted him to so desperately be their Shadow the Hedgehog, edgelord anti-hero. They didn't ruin anything, the fans expected one thing based on basically nothing and the writers wrote Adam to have an actual personality, flaws that made him an actual villain. People hyped Adam up to be stronger than team RWBY as a whole even though he only had one fight sequence before vol 5 and it was alongside Blake only to be surprised when, surprise surprise, Adam was not the super god master swordsman of hyper death they envisioned in their fan fics and that he was bitch slapped by the girl that was shown to fight equal to him in the ONE fight sequence he appeared in. At this point, all the whining about Adam's death has devolved into a bunch of fans blaming the writers for sticking to what they originally created instead of bending to the whims of people that didn't even write the character in the first place.

@@arianna9082 It does. Because how can people who can claim to be such big fans of Adam miss the whole point of his character? A "hero" of his people that slowly grew more selfish as people glorified his heinous actions and put him on a pedestal. A character that went from hurting humans for the sake of the other faunus to a character that started to believe the world owed him everything. He's based partly on Gaston for Christ sake.

"People hyped Adam up to be stronger than team RWBY as a whole even though he had one fight sequence before Volume 5 and it was alongside Blake" Did you forget what happened in that fight scene? Adam managed to take Blake down when he was barely putting any effort in. The guy was literally holding back Blake's attack with one arm on his sword. Not to mention that with the combined power of only *TWO* bullets he managed to bypass Yang's aura and cut her arm off *in one hit!* And he STILL wasn't even trying. The guy was so casual about it the entire time. That seems pretty damn powerful to me. Remember when it took all of RWBY working in tangent to takw down that mech? Adam took half of RWBY down with less effort than that. As for everything else, I don't think Adam not willing to abandon his opportunity to chase after Blake after a while, this line: "You want my men to die for your cause. A *human* cause. That is not idea that I'm willing to entertain" or anything Blake said about him prior to Volume 4, or the Black trailer, his fighting style, lack of care about innocent lives was "nothing to go off of". This is even more damning for your case when Adam is literally tied to the White Fang plotline which is basicslly X-Men but with Faunas instead of mutants. The whole scenerio is basically designed to have some sort of moral grey areas to it and the audience expected that. If Adam was always meant to be some ex boyfriend type of character, then introducing him as part of a conflict that inheritely has some shades of grey to it was a bad idea.

@@HappyPotat Him obviously changing doesn't necessarily mean that the change that took place was done well. I wouldn't even consider him "changing," as changing, he just became an entirely different character after season 3. That is not how character development works, even people in the real world don't work like that unless they're mentally ill.

@@nocktukdaze8256 First off neither Yang or Blake were fighting to their full potential. Blake was terrified of Adam and barely even fought back while Yang was blinded by pure rage and was easily exploited (something that gets pointed out later). Second off Adam stores up his energy more than Yang does, it's not a spontaneous release and he can choose how much energy he releases in his attack, so it wasn't just two bullets that caused that output that was a large stock of energy he had occurred over a long period of time. Even then that particular ability is shown to require focus and calm, which is why he needed Blake to buy him time in the Black trailer. But more than that, apparently Adam beating a terrified Blake who didn't even try to fight back and a Yang who wasn't thinking straight suddenly makes him stronger than either of them? Did we just forget that Blake at her best defeated a criminal that reportedly made fully fledged huntsmen flee? Or that Yang at her best is is a much more composed fighter? Also, in Vol 3, Adam initially declines Cinder's offer because it's a human cause and he considers human filth and beneath him, but this is also BEFORE Blake leaves him. Afterwards he accepts Cinder's offer without resistance. Yeah Cinder threatened him with fire, but Adam was also willing to fight her the first time around but this time he folded so easily. This is because Adam descent into a selfish character slowly begins here. I'm not denying that Adam cared for the faunus cause, I'm saying the whole point of his character is to go from an idolized hero to a selfish murderer. Also, what moral grey areas? The only grey area was Sienna Khan's faction of white fang which used violence as a means of getting attention but all for the sake of equality. Adam, from the very beginning, never cared for equality and sees humans as beneath the faunus. There's no moral grey area with him, his cause is just objectively wrong; killing people for the sake of superiority. But if that was all his character was based on then he'd have very little reason to be an antagonistic character towards the protagonists. God forbid the villain have a fatal, moral flaw that makes him a warped individual, thus establishing his threat towards the heroes. His warped obsession over Blake hounds her and creates a tension around her, it gives him character and it justifies the whole point of her leaving him in the first place. Why is it hard to believe a villain can have a moral flaw? That's pretty much one of the prerequisites of what constitutes a villain in the first place.

What is wrong with wanting an awesome interesting character and then being mad they give you shit? We mad because the early seasons seemed to promise us something great only to turn around and slap us in the face with this sad shitshow. I find the response to be a perfectly valid since it makes everyone who ever invested anything in Adam feel like they wasted their time. If they had shown Adam to be a shit character from the start no one would be complaining right now because we would have known he was shit and not worth our time or attention. What we got feels like a bait and switch or a terrible retcon. We simply wanted to the show to do better and it didn't, at least when it came to Adam.
