don't forget the rule of looking to the left/right when walking onto the track. Some clubs save the inside Lane so that the track does not get qorum out. don't forget spikes..and also when it's ice how leathal the surface can be. Also training on a track or road is not half as good as grass running and hills for improvement. I am sure I could think of some more points.

I’ve done a couple of track marathon races - that’s 106.5 laps. Luckily, laps are counted using a timing chip.

Thank you for this. I constantly run at the track for my longer runs because I’m not use distances. But my god my biggest pet peeve is when a walker is in the first lane. I know not everyone understands how it works but still

If running 400 meters…should I always keep a right foot left foot running rythym if I am right handed? And also, i didn’t know running clockwise was good for warmup and cool down 👌🏻 thanks. And answer my initial question please. Thank u

I tend to struggle to know what sort of recovery to do between reps, I tend to do shorter recoveries between shorter reps but have seen plenty of people do the opposite

Could you do a video about the Cooper test and how to train for one?

Hi, i didn't use this to learn how to run on a track, but rather to know how a track field looks like so i can draw it, so thanks, great vid!

How is the 400m measured. Is it along the inside line or the centre line of the inside lane? Thanks for the video.

Hi - great tips, but, could I ask 2 x questions for the running channel or anyone 🙂... (1) are all tracks 400m, (2) is the inner lane the same distance as the outer lane - intuitively it seems like lane 8 should be longer?

Hi Peter, almost all outdoor tracks are exactly 400m (certainly in the UK at least). Indoor tracks are usually 200m. Lane 1 is the only lane that is 400m, all the others are progressively longer - look for the white lines in each lane to show you where 400m starts in that lane.

Hi are these tracks free and open to the public like a park? I want to time my 200m and 100m but want to do it on the track for better accuracy but am uncertain if these tracks are available freely to go in for the public.

Thanks for watching Adubayo! Here in the UK running tracks are mostly part of sport or leisure centres where you'd need to pay a fee for access. There are some free tracks too - for example my local park paints a 400m track on the grass in summer. You might want to search on google, or if you have a local running club as them. Good luck!

The Running Channel appreciate the quick response. Yh I’m in London and I saw that there are many leisure centres online that have tracks as well. Hopefully I can find one that is under £25 ish a month and start getting more accurate times to tell if I’m improving. I guess the other facilities are an added bonus
