I just received two Veradek planter boxes. After watching this video I tried this solution. Since these are large planters, I ran out of strength trying to spray just one planter box with a spray bottle. I ended up mixing 4 batches (64 oz hydrogen peroxide) into a garden sprayer. Went on quickly, and I had enough mixed to spray it 4 times over 4 days. Achieved a very nice rust level.

When your planters are as rusty as you want them to be and all the rusty drips are dry, will the rain run clear since it's not acidfied? I don't want the drips to stain my pavers so I was hoping to rust them and then coat them in exterior verathane. What is your opinion on that? Thanks.

I made the spray, was working like a charm but when I was making up my second batch, I realized I read the recipe wrong, switched the measurement of the peroxide and vinegar and did 16 oz of vinegar, 2 oz of peroxide!🤦♀️ Will all that acid be too corrosive to the metal? I did 4 layers before I realized my mistake. Should I hose it off as best I can?

I used the recipe and sprayed the planters 3 times allowing it to dry in between. They are now black and not the beautiful rust color I wanted. Is it possible to spray too much? Is there anything that can be done to bring back the rust color?

I have applied this exact solution to my new planter at least 20 times without achieving the desired rusted look. How many applications are required?!

Have you tried to do the same on a metallic garage door? Would you expect the same results?

Once you get the desired color, how can you stop the process and prevent stains from being transferred to your floor surface, hands, clothes, etc.?

Hi there! After the initial rust process, stains and runoff should lessen significantly. If you're concerned about rust staining the surface your planter rests on, we do recommend putting some sort of protective layer to separate the surfaces or by using one of our optional drip drays, available on our website.

Should we line the interior of the planter before planting?

As a supplier of clear coatings to seal corten steel (the visible areas) we recommend that the inside is selaed with a waterproofer like flintcote.

Another video suggests 2 T vinegar and 1/2 tsp salt to 2 c. peroxide (yours being 4 T vinegar, 1.5 tsp salt to 2 c. vinegar). Does your 'stronger' formula create a patina faster?
