I am in the process of putting together a complete video for my M52 engine rebuild. It's a big one so what I have decided to do is take small clips out of it in advance for important parts of the rebuild to make it more digestible. The entire video will go live for sure, but I am also looking to answer some of the smaller but important parts in greater detail.
In this quick video I explain how to safety wire a BMW oil pump nut. For those of you in the know it's a known issue that the oil pump nut can become loose over time (even though it's reverse threaded) and fall off the oil pump impeller shaft. For race cars or high performance engines it's highly recommended to safety wire this nut as a precaution.
In my M52 engine rebuild for my E36 track car project I have decided to safety wire this oil pump nut to the sprocket. It's relatively easy pending you have decent safety wire pliers and have drilled the nut properly. This is a worthwhile thing to do when you have the oil pan off or the engine out of the car for a rebuild.
