I was a young local Chicago DJ back in the 90s it was the greatest time to be alive, I played everything House, Techno, alternative dance, Industrial music, and some Jungle/DnB. But when I played this track it had everyone dancing even the Goth people will rise from the dark corners and get on the dance floor, 😂

I remember when it was released. MASSIVE!! Then I heard my mums Chicago album and was gobsmacked by how simple the track was… simple but brilliantly effective. Genius.

The part where you're rendering the Gypsy Woman chords bit (and chords in general) - it's much easier to just export them as one file and then use one of the slice types on the whole sample. Programming the render section with the smallest gap possible means you don't take up any more memory, it saves a shitload of time and keeps it as one easy to find sample for later use.

@@StarskyCarr It's just a simpler way to do the exact same thing. Only one naming to do, and less 'sample management' in project as well. Finding workflow shortcuts on the PET is one of the most fun parts of using it. :)

Probably the single most helpful video I’ve seen about the tracker workflow. I’m coming from using a Digitakt and your flow is very similar to mine of that except the tracker streamlines a lot of the things that took quite a bit more brainpower on the DT (at least given the firmware i was using back in 2019)

Really enjoyed this video, the Tracker always kind of mystified me and it was helpful to see your workflow while making a track. I’m a synthesis and keyboardist and I’ve never been able to get into sampling workflows. I never would have thought to eg sample the organ chords and play the rhythm on the pads but it sounds great!

Nie to hear... the big one for me is using fill to do filter sweeps. I always thought it only affected a sound if there was a note on the same step. turns out it act just like anything else and the FX modulate the tone that's playing (which is obvious when you think about it). Any other things that aren't clear let me know and I may make another. :)

Amazing workstation to dig it, i do love the old “skool” trackers, iv started with them. Unfortunately the tracker has a very bad sync, if you need to export all this to a daw…enjoy the never fix polyend bug instead of make the new mini with more power cpu and usb audio…thnx polyend. Ill never buy nothing from them again.

Super great jam man!! Dying to get one of this. Gut feeling that will draw out my best creativity. Thing is, I don't know shit about music theory (yet) and all those scrolling notes scares me. Is a tracker suitable for non musicians make dope grooves?
@StarskyCarr
Жыл бұрын
DOn't be put off by the scrolling notes - its just another way of showing what's going on. If you don't now about music theory its probably not as much of an issue anyway. DAWs can show notes in a piano roll or musical score - but if you don't know music that's of no use either :). The biggest difference to something like an MPC is the pads are much smaller so it's not as easy to play live. Finger drumming for example is probably easier on something with 16 large pads... but then playing notes is easier on the 48 smaller pads as you can access 4 octaves at the same time.

@StarskyCarr

What are the MODs? Sorry for being an idiot!
@FolkerHQ
2 жыл бұрын
@@StarskyCarr FolkerHQ back in the 80s/90s the Amiga had that Paula audio chip and the trackers were invented. The files were called MODULEs. Today there are some file formats like XM, IT, MOD. These files contain the notes and instrument data with the samples and also the effects. So in short a "MOD" the file format that stores your song. It is much smaller than the complete song as WAVE rendered, because it contains only the samples and notes like you have created it in your Polyend Tracker. It should be possible to import MODs as well into the Polyend Tracker and listen to other creations.
@FolkerHQ

@@StarskyCarr I guess, today came out the new firmware for the Polyend Tracker v 1.6, I could do the following on my Polyend Tracker: [ File ] | Export | Export as .it that saves an IT-file into the MOD folder on the microSD card. That IT-file can be re-played in e.g. VLC media player on the computer.

Now im going to say the truth! The arturian midi chords played sounded very strange, like a sliding tri tone when recording them in, then the samples sounded very clicky! Other then that the gypsy woman song is a great classic of our common past youth.
@StarskyCarr
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I video’d the first attempt then used a longer sample later - which is heard in some of the track but the original is in other parts. If releasing as a finished product I’d go back and re-record - but my Mac had to go back to Apple for repair, and I hoped no-one would notice 🤦♂️😂🤷♂️😂
