If you can, and can do it securely, keep some reptiles outdoors during the warmer months. I keep my bearded dragons in outdoor enclosures from spring to fall. They do great and their colors are phenomenal from the natural sun. You save a tone of money from not having to replace uvb and run heat. Some people say they don't need it once you bring them in for winter, but I do out of caution.

Ooooh, that's a good point! A lot of people in warmer places (like Florida) do this for things like iguanas, and I always thought it was such a cool idea.

Hi Elle, there should be a warning if you begin to breed Dubia roaches - when I changed their water the other day, an adult female just stood there watching what I did, then went for a drink. It then stood around patiently waiting for me to put fresh vegitables in for them, then it casually wandered across and began eating, crunch, crunch, crunch, on a bean sprout. Now I'm expected to feed it to the bearded dragon? Warning, they may be devious and try to grow on you. Lol.

I have not bonded with any Dubia roaches, lol. I can say they are very fast and good hiders when they get loose in the tank.

Tip on propagation - if you've rooted your plant in water (like you did with the Pothos), make sure to water the plant more than usual for the first week or two! It's a big shock moving from water to dirt, and I've found that the plants tend to make the transition more smoothly if you support them with extra water at first. 🌱

I have a tip for people who keep both exotic plants and animals. Try to plan ahead of time how many environments you have capacity for and match animals and plants within those. Seems obvious, but it’s really easy to instead adopt random animals and plants, then be like “oh we need an X type enclosure now” and end up with way more different terrariums and greenhouses than you can handle because you are filling them out instead of going to a loose plan.

Hey Elle! Glad you’re doin better! My brother-in-law had a stroke last year, and he’s doing better, but he still has things that are affecting him from it. It’s just takes time to heal. I have a dragon, and he fell in love with him, so for an early Christmas gift I’m buyin him a baby hopefully this week! I already bought the enclosure for him as well. It’ll be great because we can share feeders and veggies. I have sent him in your direction to research about dragons and etc., so I thank you SO much for your hard work and making these videos. Hope you have a great week! Love ya girl! ❤❤❤

I do disagree on the final size tanks for some species - like if I put my Rosy Boa in his 50G right away I think he would've slipped through the sliding glass :/ (He's in a 10G for now.) But for something like a Beardie or a thicker snake, definitely!

One thing I have wondered about and that is why has no one started making and selling window vivariums for small reptiles to enjoy during the warmer weather? I think this would be great for some of our smaller lizard and snake species kept as pets. They do this for birds,so why not for reptiles? I've actually had some ideas, but while I'm an artist, building window stuff is outta my wheelhouse,as it were. I can draw it or sculpt it,but never worked with mesh cloth,wood,nails...Errrr,you get he idea.🙄Also what's the thing with springtails and charcoal and where do you even get charcoal; that does not have gasoline sprayed on it?

is there anyway to heat a converted tank ? because you can’t place something like a DHP on the glass, it will explode.. just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

I bet this is in the video, but DIY is the way to go if you’re on a budget. When Autumn (my beardie) gets older we’re probably gonna build our own cage that’s gonna be bigger than a 120 gallon (she’s in a 40 rn) Like literally everything in a beardie’s tank (excluding lights and maybe wood) can all be diy. I use bearded dragons for an example because that’s what I have but it really depends on that reptile.

These are great tips! Oh when you talked about the plant propagation- I felt that. I have a cursed thumb. Like a green thumb's opposite. I am slooooooowwwly learning to keep things alive trying to ready a bioactive for when my snake is grown enough to live in it.

I decided that a cost effective way it to build your own enclosure. I recently got an adult leopard gecko and i thought the first tank was a 40 gallon. I was wrong and i bought from Facebook. Granted it came with 2 hides so it wanst a complete loss. Then i found another tank which i was told was a 40 gallon front opening tank. After further research, It was a 20 gallon low boy tank. After spending $125 for both of these which the 2nd tank came with a heat lamp and more accessories, i could have build a 40 gallon to the way i wanted it. So next weekend. That is exactly what im going to do and i will sell the two tanks that i found back on Facebook. Also, if you make your own substrate for a leopard gecko, make sure to sift out the wood chips and bake the top soil in the oven (at 180 to 200 degrees for at leats 2 hours) to reduce the risk of any unwanted guests and other particles for a bioactive or non bioactive substrate

We grow leafy greens along with the organic spring mix. I grow microgreens for them, one girl gets them in bowls and my girl is bioactive and what grows in her tank varies. A $3-5 pack of seeds goes far! I also have an anole and use my girl's old uvb, same size and she is also bioactive. Almost all of her feeders breed in there but bsfl, those I seed into the cage's substrate. They hide and eat, get huge, morph into huge flies. My bearded dragon is bioactive and some of hers breed in there too. The rest we seed or just give in a bowl. I grow leafy greens and microgreens in there, that she forages on. She gets a daily salad and it stays for the critters too. Also want to add for a reptibreeze, rescreen the top with a 1\4 inch hardware cloth. Barely any uvb gets through their screen.
