I just got a small donabe like yours from Ginpo and their instructions say to season with flour and water which I thought was interesting since I usually season my big donabe with rice porridge. Thanks for sharing!

The rice method is the same. The starch in the rice means that you are filling the pores in your pot with starchy water which is slightly adhesive. Flour in water is the same

Thanks. I just bought a donabe pot at a local Japanese store here in San Diego, CA. I will use your guidelines before using the donabe.

I have a new donabe, also purchased from Toiro! Before seasoning, do I need to wash it first? I also heard you're not supposed to use soap when cleaning - is that true?

U can wash it with mild soap. Dry it upside down and make sure IT’s completely dry before seasoning

do you know if the donabe can be used on a glass cook range?

Thank you so much. This is better than the other way I read where you soak it for 24 hours and drying it in the sun, which I don’t have right now because it’s been cold and overcast in the Bay Area lately. Porridge it is,

Hi, I didn’t know I needed to season it before using. I only used it once. Can I still season it and it will be ok?

may I ask why do you need to season this pot since it is capable to be heated empty? Thanks
@SoyandPepper
Жыл бұрын
It cannot be heated when it’s empty!!! It needs liquid in it or it will crack. Season the pot helps close up and pores and preserves the pot to prevent it from cracking and leakage

The bottom must be dry before you put on the fire, but you then add water inside. does the inside have a special coating?
