When it comes to Chinese and Asian food, the most useful tool for cooking it is undoubtedly the wok.
The best thing is to take a traditional Chinese carbon steel wok and prepare it by making it non-stick burning oil, following the procedure shown in the video.
I chose a Flavemotion wok, one of the best sellers on Amazon. It is very sturdy and durable, it is economical and will last a lot of time!

1. Wash both sides of the wok with warm soapy water.
2. Dry it well with a cloth or kitchen paper.
3. Turn the heat on high and heat the wok until it turns red and then blue (about 20 minutes).
4. Allow the wok to cool and add about ½ tablespoon of seed oil (flax, sunflower, peanut or olive oil) to the wok and distribute it over the entire inside and outside surface (outside only the first time).
5. Turn on the high heat and heat the wok to create the non-stick patina. When he has stopped smoking and has created a dark and homogeneous patina (after about 10 minutes) let it cool down.
6. If you want, you can repeat the seasoning up to 3 times. Add another teaspoon of oil, distribute it only on the inner surface and heat until a nice dark patina forms.
7. Let the wok cool and rinse it with a soft sponge (without soap), dry it very well with a cloth and heat it briefly.
8. Turn off the heat and wipe a few drops of seed oil on the inner surface with a napkin to prevent rust.
Now your wok is ready to cook your favorite recipes with its natural non-stick coating!
Advice:
- It does not matter if at the end of the process it is not completely black on the whole surface and if it is not perfectly non-stick at the beginning, but with each use the patina will improve over time reaching the ideal condition!
- Before you start to burn the oil, open the window and turn on the fan because it will smell.
- To clean the wok after using it, simply rinse it with hot water and a sponge or cloth, if there is still something attached you can rub it with salt. Always dry the wok very well and distribute a few drops of oil on the inner surface to protect it from rust and keep it until the next recipe!
