I lightly moistened clean paper towels and wiped down the trays with the distilled water. I used several different clean paper towels and wiped the trays down twice. Using a new sponge (if you have one) is probably easier and quicker. Just make sure you only use distilled water. The wood is very dry and will quckly absorb the distilled water. It will look as if you are painting or stanining the trays as you wipe them. They darken in color. By the time I finished wiping down the second tray the first tray had already lightened in color. So I wiped them both down twice. You don't want to soak them. Just moisten them. Then I put the distilled water in a glass container and sealed everything up as shown in the video. I'll leave it be for two days and check on it. Hopefully wiping down the trays with the distilled water helps quicken the seasoning process.

This'll def speed up the process. Just go easy when applying paper towel or sponge so the wood finish doesn't start to get rough.

Hello, I love all your videos. But I have a question I’m a little confused all the other videos. I’ve seen take a sponge and dip it in distilled water and put it all over the trays. Should I not do that?

@sigmanado I have a question - After placing the cup of water in the tuppidor and having reach 75rh, the rh is still at 75% after 24hrs. Should I remove the trays to air out? I added another hydrometer to verify, so I know the rh is correct. Thanks!

No it needs to stay sealed and let it soak up that moisture. Even if the hygro reading +75rh it takes time to season the shelves

Do you think BOVEDA FOR HUMIDOR SEASONING is better?

I prefer this because Boveda seasoning takes 2 weeks

I bought the 236oz Sistema and 2 of the Spanish Cedar trays from Amazon that you link to (12.5" x 7.5" x 2.25") and I can't get them both to fit. They are too high too close the container. Any suggestions on another container? Not sure why they don't fit since it seems like a popular combination.

Great tutorial! Can the Boveda 85%RH seasoning packs be used instead of distilled water? I have the sistema containers and plan on getting trays soon.

This is what I am doing right now. Sistema container with 2 trays and 84%rh Bovedas. I bought the seasoning kit from Amazon. Also used the boveda calibration kit for my govee hygrometer

Great video! How long did it take for the RH to change for seasoning the wood? I did exactly as the video (same products) and the RH went up 8% after one day. Know you said give it a week, but does it happen that slow?
@sigmanado

It does take a while and you don’t want to crack that seal open and let the moisture out. You’ll have to start it over.
@JumpCoachingConnection

@@sigmanado Thanks. Yeah, seems like taking time. started it on a Saturday and the reading was 32.8% RH, as of Thurs. morning, it is up to 64.3% RH. Appreicate your response. For sure not opening it at all - but you really, really want to!

@@JumpCoachingConnection could also take clean cloth or sponge that’s dampened with distilled water, and lightly rub some of that water on the shelves. This’ll help speed things up. But don’t soak them too much and don’t rub too hard or it’ll fray the wood.

Ok, damn you got me thinking now. I don’t remember if I did this with all my trays in the beginning. Well, either way awesome and informative video as always bro 👍🏼 How do you like that needone? I’m ready to Just get one of them because the temp on my sticks is always high and In my mind I imagine that they are easier to deal with? But I’m not sure

Thanks bro. I was thinking the same thing when I got my Needone, that cooler sticks would be better. Personally, didn’t like them cooler. I keep the need one at 72deg. Pretty close to my Tupperdor temps. Plus, had to add a fan for circulation because of the full drawers.

I see a few comments about the spanish cedar trays not working...I ask how can that be? The trays are 2.25" H and the sistema is 4.72" H? @peterkaye2257
