NIce video! Just a couple of comments. I wonder if more people would be more interested in the way Ben(and almost all the pros) used to serve before PPA changed the serve rules for the pros only playing in PPA matches.? I'm sure almost all of your viewers are amateurs and would like to learn how to best serve in their own matches without the PPA restrictions. Also, the wrist lag was explained and demonstrated well by you but the shoulder rotation to achieve it was not described in detail. Ben looks almost totally relaxed in his serve... except in his non dominant hand and arm motion that is leading his forward swing path once he releases the ball. He is keeping his upper body taut to maximize his rotational momentum. Also, while the still you used was from several years ago when Ben was sponsored by Franklin and using his old serve, you can see how his body has almost completely rotated after the ball is struck and his right foot has not yet moved forward. Your demonstration has the right foot moving forward much earlier. Anyway, very small points and thanks for making these great videos!

Thanks for the great video. I would add 2 things. 1. The weight shift from the back foot to the forward foot. 2. After the serve, Ben takes a step back and then another step back into a split-step so he is behind the endline (in a ready position and laterally positioned). Also, it seems that it is easier to generate more power from this semi-closed stance than a fully open stance. I am puzzled why some pros stand square (open) to the endline.

Do you change your grip from Eastern to Continental after the serve?

Thank you for such a prompt response. Please bear with me when I ask if most stronger players switch grips? Majority of my group of 4.0 players stay continental or switch Eastern back to continental. Should I work on staying Eastern for more topspin which seems to be what the way the game is evolving? Your thoughts?

The only time high level players switch grips is when they have time. For the most part they hold the same grip. If they get a high ball to the backhand they will switch their grip so their backhand is more facing down. Does that make sense?

How is it that every You Tube pickleball video is filmed on completely vacant courts? Even the side courts.

Haha it’s cause I film mid day! It was 115 when I filmed this. The courts get full around 7pm

Just to be clear, nothing about the follow through affects the ball after contact. The follow through is just reflective of the swing path.
