Why did you use grease instead of oil on the levelwind shaft? Won't that attract more dirt? And aren't you supposed to put a drop of oil on the pawl?

Great teardown vid mate, hi from Australia! You hear people bagging out all brands of reels, but if they took the time to service them regularly as you did in this clip, they would maximise performance and longevity. All the best!

I just realized how important it is to lube the worm gear. I haven't opened my reel up yet to do this maintenance. But worm gear lube is very critical.

Don't grease the worm gear like this guy. Get yourself some gun oil. Always oil the worm shaft. This guy over greases everything. Its nit good to over grease as it hinder performance not longevity. Grease attracts dirt so in open areas like the levelwind do not grease. This dude is far from good at this. Nothing was even cleaned. We use sonic cleaners in my shop.

I'm having trouble finding replacement brake pads for Rover 40, mine flew off into a black hole, can't find any on your website, I'm looking for a small package of 10.

Never mind, I made some from a plastic stick Q- Tip, cut them to size, flattened them out a little bit with needle nose pliers, and then cut a thin strip of Gorilla Tape to wrap around them about 2-3 x's to add a little more weight to them...they works fine. Just in case anyone else needs a quick fix.

I love the smell of the WD-40 and grease and oil after I clean my reels...if they made a mens cologne out of it, I wear it.

I just received a BRAND NEW one. It is NOT working correctly. I'm going to try this, but I shouldn't have to take apart, grease, and oil a brand new reel as soon as I take it out of the box. I suspect it will still have issues and I will be sending it back. The brake sticks really bad, The tension control knob has to be tightened to the max to work, and then I can't hardly turn it to adjust it. No matter what I do, I am still getting bad backlashes. I've got several other brands of conventional reels and none have had these issues. I'm pretty disappointed.

C-clips are not impossible to source. If ordering OEM is going to take too long, you can size it and order generic C-clips by the hundred if you like. Also you should have pointed out that your "11" was 11mm, because many of us use normal measurements instead of metric. So what... 11/16" ? Say "11mm" and be clearly understood. Because you seem a little shaky on general mechanical principles and terminology, some more cautious viewers would have to think about what you actually meant. No big deal so far, right? But did you think to point out, for those not used to taking this reel apart, that the handle nut is left hand threaded? Somebody could break something, turning it what would in any other context be the proper direction, thinking that it is just on there extra tight. Always point out when you encounter left hand threads. I couldn't go on. Sorry, that was as far as I could bear to watch.

40, 50, and 60 practically the same, just different spool and frame width. The 70 on up are different reel. I think they should make a 30, just like the 40 but with spool maybe 2/3 as wide as the 40, would make a great light bass fishing reel. I would buy one.
