I have a 2023 Yam 70 and I use it in the pacific northwest. My dealer told me to only use the Yam conventional oil instead of the synthetic which surprised me. Using synthetic in cold water the motor can't get to proper temp so it can make oil. I had that problem in my last motor, a yam 90. Nice video, looking forward to my 20 hr service I'll be doing soon.

Can anyone help me understand why the F70 owners manual says to use an oil extractor to pump the oil out instead of draining it through the drain plug as seen here? I can't understand it! It's like there's an easy way to change the oil right in front of you but they tell you to do it a different way that requires buying another tool! What is going on here?

Thank you so much for this video! It’s perfect for a noob like me. I’m hoping to get your opinion... I bought an Edgewater 158cs at the end of last season. It came with the F70 and it’s brand new. I was able to get her out on the water twice before it got too cold (maybe 2-3 hours). Since then, she’s been in my garage. So here’s the question... would you change the oil going into the Spring? Or do you think I’m good until the first 20 hour service?
@ShallowHookerFishing

I would probably just check the level and condition of the oil and gear lube before you start your season. If it’s ok then I would wait for the 20 hr maintenance.

@@nagamus had for almost two years. Love the boat but the ladder is poorly designed. Too difficult to climb onto the boat. Just started my first 100hr service. I live in south Florida so we can boat year round. But being on the gulf, the saltwater can corrode things quick. The stainless fittings are holding up well but I rinse the boat off well after every use. Love the no feedback steering. Didn’t have that on my last boat. Oh and I’ve put the boat in the water twice now while forgetting to put the plug in 😉. And i can tell you the auto bilge pump works great. You should see the water fly out.

They can last longer, depending on how much wear or non-use, The longer you go past two years the more apt you could have a problem, but they will last longer than one or two years in most cases in freshwater!
