A 3rd episode of my Dr Vstrom, brake maintenance video series on how to remove, inspect, clean, lube & remount the rear brake caliper. The video was created after a lot of questions/requests on the social media as the rear caliper in newer generation Vstroms has now limited space to work on, due to the new exhausts.
Whether you ride in winter time or its been a long time since you last serviced your brakes, its always a good idea to give your brake calipers some attention at least once every year & before the new riding season is about to start. Servicing those brake parts & their components is critical as salt, dirt, brake dust & rust tend to accumulate & inhibit their proper operation.
Although motorcycle brake calipers are simple in operation they do tend to occasionally suffer from the causes mentioned above & drag or make squeaking or other noises. The issue can usually be traced to badly serviced calipers & their components such as dirty/rusty caliper pistons, corroded caliper pins, cracked caliper boots, etc.
It is then time to give them some attention by inspecting, cleaning & lubricating them to handle this problem.
This video walks you through the process of doing exactly that & demonstrates on a Vstrom 2017 but the process is the same for all calipers.
