Loved your presentation. That said, I would suggest that arguing for MS simply because of its price is doing your viewers a disservice. Please consider why, in spite of the low price of MS, more and more Mac users are switching to plugin hosts like ours, that are significantly more expensive. I deliberately did not mention our product name as my purpose in posting here was just to point out that there are many other factors that should be considered such as ease of use, reliability, functionality, flexibility, interoperability with other applications and so forth. We would not be reasonably able to charge a significantly higher price than MS if we were not offering a significantly more valuable solution for live performing musicians.

Thanks for the comment David! I agree that price is not the only factor, and I wouldn't recommend MainStage just because it is the cheapest option. In fact, I'd say that MainStage is critically underpriced. My love for MainStage comes from those factors you mentioned: I have not found anything easier to use than MS. The built in sounds and effects are extremely intuitive and MIDI assignments + mappings can be done with a couple clicks. Designing the layout is simply drag and drop. Because it shares the same sounds and effects as Logic, there are tons of resources out there for learning exactly how everything works. I've played for years and have never had a crash in a live setting- it's proven to be quite reliable for me. I have thousands of hours in this program, and the only times I crash is when I am pushing the limits of the platform (100s of patches loaded at once, etc.,). There have been some spotty updates in the past, but the latest build seems to be very stable. I've seen MainStage used and trusted in live symphony settings, at concerts with major bands, etc., It comes with the full Logic X sound and effects library- which it just incredible. They could charge $100s for some of those instruments and effects alone. For example, the Alchemy synth that Apple bought and added to MS at no additional cost used to be $249 on it's own. I'd agree that it doesn't have the greatest inter-app operability, but I don't see too many keys players using that functionality. I do hope Apple adds the ability to send the clock and MIDI data to other apps though. It seems to be incredibly flexible: you can customize the GUI anyway you'd like, use it for guitar, bass, keys, vox, or any instrument that plugs in. With the power of busses, scripting, mappings, the sampler, audio and MIDI effects, sounds, layers, splits, sets, patches, combo patches, etc., I can't think of anything I need to do that MS can't handle. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm not against other platforms by any means, but I really do believe MainStage is the most powerful, well rounded, and featured packed live keys software out there. The cheap price is just the cherry on top for me. I encourage everyone to go out there and research the various options- and then choose the one that fits their needs.

Hey man, cool video. Love watching this type of content even though I'm not a Mainstage user. As a Gig Performer and Ableton user I just wanted to correct a couple points you made regarding Mainstage alternatives because I would hate for people to not give them a chance for thinking it's something it's not. 1. Gig Performer is not complicated at all to use. As a matter of fact many ex-mainstage users rave about how much easier it is to use over mainstage. It just works differently. 2. Both Ableton and Gig Performer are not "less powerful". I would actually make the argument that both are much more powerful and flexible than Mainstage. I'm not anti Mainstage but there is a reason a lot of power users tend to go with Ableton and GP. 3. You're not wrong about them costing more, but I just want to let people know there is a reason they cost more. First Ableton is a full DAW, and Gig Performer is worth much more than even that higher price in my opinion. 4. Lastly, many Mac users have have chosen Gig Performer and Ableton instead of Mainstage despite it's low price and preinstalled collection of plugins. I just think people should know that. All that being said I think Mainstage works great for many church volunteers with simple needs especially with the availability of pre-made templates (such as your own) for people that are not great at programming their own setups. I will definitely recommended your template to any Mainstage users that I come across (but not before pointing out the "alternatives" 😉 ) And before people assume, I don't work for either of these companies (I did voluntarily participate in a Gig Performer live stream where I shared my setup but I didn't receive any compensation for that). I just wanted to clarify these specific points in an otherwise great video.

Mainstage? I don't find it flexible at all. I cannot accomodate multiple band members with it! There are other alternatives, that give you multi-instance support. Also, the MIDI processing is pretty poor. For example, it doesn't let you isolate the lowest note in a chord and route it to another VST (pardon, AudioUnit...).

Sorry to hear that. It’s definitely not for everyone. In those cases, I believe MainStage could work. You can run multiple keyboards and instruments in one instance of MS. You could accomplish that midi processing with a script, but I agree it’s not super easy. For those more niche scenarios, other options could be the better option. For the average keys rig and needs though, I feel MS does it best.

Hello friend, first let me congratulate you for your work, I would really like you to make a different price for me besides the 25% discount .. I intend to make a video on my channel on this subject, in the same format, but in Portuguese I will subsequently indicate your product and your work, I am already working on something similar in terms of setting up a setup rig. Thank you in advance, and I await a response.
