Thank you this was super helpful with the step by step . I had to have new awning installed on my class A motorhome due to getting into wind storm on Highway and getting it practically torn off. Anyway the installers did run me through quickly how this one works but I needed more time for it all to sink into my brain. Your step by step was perfect and it was just what the repairers had told me now that I can run through it at a slower pace. I now can practice a couple times in my driveway and Im sure things will go smoothly.

Great video! To keep from climbing on a ladder, stool or stretching, get yourself a pull rod. Dometic 830152.102 Awning Pull Rod - 46". It will simplify unlatching and rolling up the awning. You can then have the pull down ribbon in the center, away from the door.

Thank You. My sad story is I paid a shop to fix a few things, including operation of the awning. When I picked it up, I did not check it on the spot, then put the RV away for a couple of years. Life happens, that business went under. When I went to use the awning I found the strap rolled up inside. Also, the mechanism on the arm that I paid to have fixed was I ended up fixing it myself. Your "By the steps" video helped me proceed with confidence and fix each issue. I eventually had to climb up on a ladder and unroll the awning by hand. After I got it unrolled a couple of feet, I was able to stick a board into the gap to hold it open, then pull it further open using the arms.

When I first got it, I accidentally rolled the strap inside. I had to do it just like you, but I was able to grab the strap after a foot or so. I'm glad this helped you with your awning. I actually like these manual awnings as there's less that can go wrong over time.

@@RoadandReel I have actually now cycled it several times to where it is becoming intuitive. I have moved the strap from a center position on a 18" awning to near one of the arms. As you know, once the awning is out some, it can be better controlled using the arms. You got me on the right track.

Great instructions, my awning was in bad shape when I bought the trailer due to lack of use and sun exposure. It had been sitting in the same place since the person had purchased it. Her husband passed away and she was never able to used it. I open it once but because it had so much sun damage and was deteriorating I was afraid to use it until I was able to replace the awning material. Last April we took it out driving speed of 60 mph and a wind gust of over 50 mph caused it to deploy, tearing it off and breaking some of the mounting hardware. I will replace everything this spring, ordered the new awing today, and I will definitely add the tie things you suggested to help secure it better. I no longer trust the plastic clips. Thanks for your advice.

Wow, that's pretty crazy! When we first got our trailer we heard about someone's awning doing just that and it ripped everything off. That's when I started adding the extra ties just in case of of those plastic clips decided to let go. I hope you get it back together and it all works out for you.

Thank you, this was very helpful. You did a great job with clear details. I bought a 2016 just like yours in 2020 and didn’t get to take it out. I’m finding it really hard to find specific tutorials on learning how everything works. I’ve got to figure out how to de-winterize it, level it, etc. and get it ready to take out in a couple weeks and I don’t even have a users manual. So anything else you want to share would be amazing! 😎Thanks again

This was very helpful. I needed to roll up an awning from my trailer which I had never opened or closed. When I got it up, the pole on the trailer and the part coming up weren't matching up. This meant I couldn't lock it into place with the plastic clips. I tried moving the awning bar but had no luck. It looks like if it were shifted to the right both would match up. Any thoughts would be great!
@RoadandReel

Try unrolling it all the way out and rolling it back up. Sometimes one side will roll up tighter than the other and pull it out of alignment. You can move the pull rope closer to the center and see if that helps keep it even. Hope that helps!

Thank you for the information! Great camera work, by the way. There's no blurriness, I can hear you fine, and you told me exactly what I needed to know-except-my button/switch up above, says the opposite of yours. It says Up, for Goin Down; and down, for going up. Let me clarify that just a little. There is an arrow pointing up, and then the word down printed below it. And then the opposite for the other direction. So I'm a little confused, lol. I can't seem to get it to pull either way, and I've got some of the strap rolled up in there. I'm a little hesitant to to yank on it anymore for fear of damaging one of us. Any suggestions??
@RoadandReel

Thank you very much for the nice comment! Mine gets stuck on the side toward the rear sometimes and I have to climb a step stool to pull it free. I just pop the front loose, first, then got to the rear. I do give it a bit of a yank. Just make sure the plastic clips are disengaged on the arms, first.

@@asixstringnut1972 you'll be able to tell when you are pulling it out if it will be stable. You still need to do the side extensions and then you can retract it a bit. Some are on a ratcheting system and will stop anywhere along the way. Congrats on the RV!

thanks for the review, currently shopping around for an awning, have this one on my radar, it looks like a really sturdy setup and being manual is nice to not have to deal with a motor, running wire, and power issues. So question, the lower mounts for the supporting arms, that are attached to the trailer body, do those screws need to go into a stud, or is the trailer body "skin" enough to hold it them tightly? Also, will these take a bit of wind?
@RoadandReel
3 жыл бұрын
We've been in 50 mph gusts, but we usually take it down when it gets too windy because it shakes the trailer. The bottom mounts do go through into the frame. This is aluminum siding, so I don't think it would be enough by itself, but fiberglass over plywood would be fine.
