Really good video! I like that youre showing everything in bags or in bowls and tubs, talking about how you break things up to be smaller, show bigger and snaller containers, etc. it really helps people like me who need to visualize better to remember lists better - I keep forgetting that orchid soil mix is recommended by a lot of people, but you showing the bag is somehow more helpful to my brain! Also, thats a lovely table and a lovely story with it. Nothing quite beats the quality of wood furniture from that era!

LOL so I have added Zibra isopods to my Hornworm breeding enclosure and dairy cow in to my silkworm enclosure along with spring tales to manage the leafletted and mold left behind after they are pupating. The leafs are are fruit base plant and should be good for the isopods. I will keep you updated and will be doing a video on it as well. I choice these 2 isopods after our conversation and watching a lot of yours videos, Chris 'the Mad Aquarist' Biggs videos, and reading stuff on the "Isopods Chicks" Web site on the diet on these 2 isopods. They are not protein driven and are more geared to the plant based diets. We will see what happens during pupating and cocooning. I am hoping that they clean house and leave the worms alone. fingers crossed! Let me know your thoughts! later and Go Ducks!

Do you feel that deeper containers are more beneficial than shallower( even if the substrate is the same depth) I was just thinking that a deeper container would allow for more airflow and air exchange and wanted to see if you see a difference. I really wish we got snow this year I keep telling my husband and kids I need to move north that I cant take the heat. Anyway I wont tell your wife about the dishes lol. I'd be a bit upset but I know its for a good cause and as long as its cleaned up I'd be okay. Also, can you show us or tell us how you process your leaves, wood and etc.? Have a great day!

Hello from Wisconsin as well! After seeing it’ll be 85+ degrees the next 10 days, I’d love some snow right about now 😂 My question is about your leaf litter..do you sanitize it in any way? Looking for some guidance before I building up my isopods and springtails to go bioactive with my leopard gecko 😊

What brand of dirt do you buy? I is it ok if perlite is in it, even the organic soil I buy seems to have it in there
@SupremeGecko
4 жыл бұрын
Personally, I don't like to have perlite in the mix as, when I am checking the enclosure when feeding, the little perlite flecks look like animals and confuses me :) I use just a generic $1.98 bag of organic dirt from a home improvement store. Or, use worm castings, which is my favorite! Great question.

Do the leaves have to be from a specific kind of trees I own 15 acres of woods and was going to collect but I was afraid to get the wrong kind
@SupremeGecko

Hardwood trees are better. Here's my suggestion- take 3 types of leaves in a small handful, crumble each up, and put in the enclosure so you can monitor the 3 amount that is eaten. Maybe take a photo when you add the leaves then check again in a month to see which ones they like better. If you do this, PLEASE keep me posted. I'm learning too :)

Wally is it better to go wider rather than taller?
@FusionDeveloper
4 жыл бұрын
I'm not Wally, but I can share my ideas. More ground means you can more easily create different environments, damp and dry in addition to having a feeding place. I suppose it's relative to how many you have. I think it's a balance of height versus width versus venting. I assume it's all about proper venting and proper humidity. You can add climb-able objects to increase surface area (like fake plants), which allows more to be comfortable in the same space.

Hey, I’m new to the hobby. But what’s the purpose with the charcoal? :) And can you tell me more about the ventilation holes? What material are you covering the holes with?
@SupremeGecko
3 жыл бұрын
Great questions. The charcoal helps neutralize amonias and gives some substrate pockets for the isopods. The venilation material can vary between chaffon or cheesecloth. I also use mealworm bags (sterilized of course). Best of luck with your new hobby.
