NVMe drive controllers consume too much power, which could lead to the enclosure dropping out, hanging and even data corruption, SSD malfunction on some ports that can't supply enough power. This manifests as a drive being 100% busy in Task Manager, while not actually doing anything. If you are really thinking about a 4TB SSD for games, just go with Samsung 860 Evo 4TB variant, which is 100 bucks cheaper, and get a USB-C enclosure for it for 20 bucks, I used the Ugreen one, which is quite nice. You won't see an appreciable performance drop, you'll save money, and you'll avoid the headache of making sure there's enough power for he SSD. (I am talking from experience. I've used the same kind of enclosure with the Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB, but it was a really bad experience. Now I've got a 4TB 860 Evo and for half a year already it has been flawless)

Recommendation to combine this with GameSave Manager for those games that don't support cloud saves and want to put saves on your actual computer, you can also sync your game saves onto the cloud as well so you never lose them. One very important thing as well, it also saves any reg keys if the game needs it, which is more needed on some standalone games.

I use an external SSD as my main boot drive for everything except my gaming-tower. It has the Linux system I like to use for studying and work and a NTFS partition to share files between that system and any other computer I use. The NTFS partition is automatically mounted at boot in the Linux system, also there are a couple of scripts to detect the device I booted it on that do stuff like picking the correct .icp color profile and stuff. It's just so practical to be able to swap the laptop by simply plugging the drive in and go. I can even just plug it into the gaming-tower and be used from there.

Is it slow for gaming/can you game on any computer? Etc. I want to know more, I want to donthis still

@@tylerchassie7273 As to how you do it? Mostly make sure your drive is identified through UUID in the bootloader and fstab. If you want to do it on Windows I think you have to install Windows while the drive is on an internal drive, because the install will fail otherwise. I haven't tried to boot the same Windows installation in different comüpters a lot though, so no clue how well it works. It boots alright in an emergency, but I never tried it for a longer period of time.

As long as you don't get the cacheless Phison E13T Sabrent Nano, that one sucks! The regular QLC Sabrent is ok, it's not the same as a higher end TLC but probably good for most people. The only issue is that their enclosure is using a JMS583 chip. Some report issues with X570 boards. Best is to get a good (e.g. Sabrent) NVMe and a third-party, ASM2362 or RTL9210 based enclosure.

I did use it on basic 1Gb/s local network and it worked perfectly fine and fast, then I upgrade my local network to agrregated 4x10Gb/s (on both sides) and from that time I have faster disk operation than from local storage (because nvme cache disks in raid0 and aggregated bandwith).
