Good video. Mine came incorrectly assembled and I had to figure out how to fit the silicone gasket to the filter. Someone stuck it into the cap backwards.

She didn't actually pull any liquid inside and the filter is literally floating at a surface level. No way any amount of liquid will ever get inside. Such a great guide. 😂 Also instead of filling the membrane with liquid and capping both ends they recommend you to store it inside a container. Geniuses... Btw almost every other hollow fiber membrane can be simply backflushed and dried out for storage. Not Lifestraw. And while I like their Peak series design, their membranes are absolutely the worst. Just look elsewhere. Luckily there's plenty competition these days.

Is there expiration or limit to how long brand new filters can be stored/shelved if never used prior? Thanks!

Hi Paul, brand new filters have an unlimited lifespan.

Just got mine in the mail today. So glad I found these videos because o never follow directions lol and I would’ve missed the storage part, which seems important. Question, again because I don’t read directions, how long does 1 filter last?

seems a tad complicated for emergency field use I reckon compared to say using a Sawyer and a Cnoc tbh but that's just my own personal, still a great system though

For sure. These products aren't intended for emergency field use but rather hiking/camping

Problems with this system. 1. She put the "plug cap" onto the clean side of the filter and then when to transport it she put the same plug cap on the dirty bag side. Cross contamination! 2. After use, the instructions (I had one) say to store the filter screwed into the dirty bag. Again, the clean output side is contaminated.

1. You're right, but all you have to do is rinse the plug cap with filtered water once and you're good for subsequent fill ups with the filter attached.... not really an issue. Also reading the manual I tihnk it's more about clean water transport/storage. You can just transport the bag with your filter and cap in place instead if you want to carry dirty water. 2. That is not a problem. The clean side is always protected by the "plug cap" and threaded ring, The clean side of the filter is not exposed to the bag only the dirty side.

@@JackRR15 I recently purchased a Platypus Quick Draw and I'm very happy with it. The outflow is so much better. About twice the out. The Lifestraw bag is a lot more robust however the output says everything. As well as a cap to cover the clean side as well as the dirty side. This also makes storing the filter in my pocket during cold times very convenient. The ability to also check to see if it has been frozen and is unsafe to use is also easy to do. Best of luck to you.

@@camper459gmail Ha that's also what I currently have, the Platy quick draw but wanted to add this 3L gravity for my main base camp setup. I agree with you for a personal water bottle or just to drink quickdraw is great but I needed something to filter more water more efficiently. It takes so much effort to fill a a water container with the quickdraw if it's more than 1L. With this 3L gravity, won't have to bring a water carrier either.

And how long can or should i keep it in the salt water?
@Thomas-yt7yo
26 күн бұрын
This is the answer I receives via email: The filter body should be stored in a saline solution to preserve the flow of water across the membrane. The flow of water through the filter is dependent on a capillary effect in which proper filter membrane hydration helps water move from the dirty side to the clean side of the filter. If completely dried out, you may find it difficult to rehydrate the filter when you go to use it again the future. This being said, you can store in this state as long as needed.

When folks are storing their filters in the saltwater solution there do they keep it in a cupboard for several months?

Lifestraw is among few that instead of drying out the membrane want you to store their filter like this. Just get a filter that doesn't require you to do all this nonsense.
