Does anyone else love scratching their Raspberry Pi itch by doing interesting Pi projects like this one? On another note, don't you just love video magic where I can speed up the waiting in the video? Haha

@@niveusjack Yeah, the RPi 3 should be just fine as long as you are connecting it using a hard wire and not over wifi.

Great video, I had been trying to install the unifi controller software on the pi and it has been so difficult to install with so many workarounds you have to do to make it work. This method is probably the best way to do it, very straightforward . My only advise would have been to skip the setting up of the Raspberry pi as there are so many videos on this subject already, so just assume that part out and use the time to focus on the Docker portion for us container noobs :) . Thank you so much for posting this, helped me out of a bind.

@@DionMunk For security reasons, I decided to migrate my UniFi controller on my hosted VPS over to Docker and your video was extremely helpful. Most other videos are about UniFi via Docker on a Synology NAS. I am not familiar with Docker, but with your easy-to-follow instructions, I completed the migration in less than 20 minutes. Thanks, again. I liked and subscribed.

I saw that jacob alberty released a new version of the docker container. I tried your commands for updating, they all seem to work, but after restart of the container, i'm still in version 7.4.156. Is it working for you?

I've moved to hosting my unifi controller on an Unraid server so I no longer use it on the Pi. But, you should be able to run `docker pull jacobalberty/unifi:latest` and then run the build command I mentioned in the video.

I have tried installing unifi controller 4-5 different times using every method i could find info in but i am failing at every turn. I have a Raspberry Pi 4 model B 8gb version. I dont not know if it is the latest version of Raspberry OS or the latest version of Java or Unifi, but nothing works. I get a different error on every attempt but NONE of the videos or documentation i have found are recent. Would you have the time to install unifi with the latest version of all of these and see if there is a step that is missing?

Great video - thank you! Newbie question - in general terms, what is the advantage to running this in a Docker container vs installing it on a raspberry pi file system? I need to watch some docker videos.

It's much easier to make sure the environment the Controller runs in is always the same. You could use this same docker-compose.yml file on just about any computer anywhere (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.) and it will work the exact same way.

@@DionMunk Followed your guidence yesterday, migrating a existing unifi-controler into this docker-setup! Everything went smooth, thanks! Used a new installation with 64bit ubuntu. My previous install was on a rpi with sd-card, now i'm running ssd and 64bit.🥳
