The hard part is setting up the cage. If you feel confident about the shelter you have provided, then go for it! Getting the animal and providing the diet is the easy part (:
@Boomslang091
8 жыл бұрын
Personally I dont think veiled chameleons are the best starter reptiles since they are very sensitive to improper husbandry. But if you've done your research and know EXACTLY what to do I say go for it. Chameleons are very fragile creatures so exact care is a must.
@johnalv2994
8 жыл бұрын
Chameleons aren't as sensitive as the comment under my original says. The creature itself can be hardy when the housing is set up properly. Like I said, that's the only hard part. Diet and handling is fairly easy. Ignore reptile labeling. The beginner to intermediate bullshit only applies to incompetent people.
@Boomslang091
8 жыл бұрын
+John Alv Thats exactly what Im saying tho. Once you get them established its not difficult to keep them, as with almost any reptile. But establishing them is a little more difficult then a low maintenance pet like a bearded dragon or leopard gecko, since chameleons have more specific needs.
@johnalv2994
8 жыл бұрын
You stated chameleons are a fragile creature which they are not. The biggest focal point is the humidity. Most deaths occur from dry enclosures. As most state, if you can care for a chameleon, you can care for any reptile.

How can I find out how hot a bulb is so I know which bulb to buy? Is halogen what you would always recommend for them? My apologies for all the questions, I am very interested in keeping an ackie and any information can help. Plus, there aren't a whole lot of care guides out there- What is the absolute MINIMUM enclosure that you can keep an adult ackie in? I know it's generally recommended for a 4×2×2 so if that is the absolute minimum I'm going to be moving a lot of things around 😂 What can their temperatures drop down to at night, if you're not using any heat sources?
@MikeTytula
2 жыл бұрын
An infra red thermometer is the best method. I can attach an affiliate link to one if you are interested. I would recommend a quality halogen bulb like the Arcadia bulbs. I honestly wouldn't keep an adult ackie in anything less than a 4x2x2, he uses every inch of the tank. The tank can drop pretty low as long as the days are remaining very hot. I would say no lower than like mid 60s. If you need supplemental heating you can use a ceramic heat emitter at night time. Here is the link: amzn.to/2ZKOUbh

So I recently got an 8 week old ackie monitor and it’s been 3 days since I’ve had her. I would assume she’s adjusting to her new environment or something along those lines because she’s been under her basking spot for those 3 days. My main question though is that how can I get her to eat, I put meal worms and small crickets in her tank, and I offered her one but she attempted to take it but later rejected it.

I have a quick question - with akies do you go through any handling methods to tame them or do you have them set up more as sort of hands-off animals? Checking since I got one a few months ago, I'm happy to do either or just with all the debate about it going on I'd rather bug someone who I know has had em' for a long time. Get the best information possible and all that.
