Another great video! *Question* There's no dedicated Aux send on this mixer, so you used the FX Send and controlled the send level with each channel FX knob. Doesn't that also increase the effects on that channel - something you probably don't want? I need to send a feed of the entire mix to a single large Bose L2 or a powered subwoofer. How can I do that with no dedicated Aux send? Can I use the Phones jack and then control it with the Phones level knob? Thanks!!

You should have covered ground loop isolators. It is a common issue since most setups use more than one outlet for it's connected components. It is especially an issue for DJ controllers with capacitive jogwheels/platters as it can cause the platters to glitch randomly when doing any scratching.
@dpapaioannow

can i have both the xlr and 1/4 inch outputs connected at the same time?each one to a different active speaker?
@thatchinaboi1
Жыл бұрын
@@dpapaioannow The issue comes from using more than one electrical outlet for a single setup. Devices with ground lift (such as DI boxes or ground loop isolators) will allow you to connect your setup to multiple electrical outlets without introducing a ground loop. A setup involves every single audio component all the way from source to speakers. If 2 setups are connected to each other than it becomes 1 setup. Balanced connection will minimize the noise from a ground loop, but they won't completely eliminate the noise. To get the best signal to noise ratio don't have multiple paths to ground in a single setup. This will also prevent a DJ controller with capacitive touch to glitch randomly due to a ground loop.

Hi there. I have a question. If i want to add a subwoofer independently from the main speakers and I want to control its volume independent of the volume of the speakers and I want to cut the low frequency for the speakers, 80/120hz, does it affect my subwoofer output? because I want to connect the speakers to the output of the mixer not to the output of the subwoofer, but I want to cut the low frequencies that go to the speakers without affecting my subwoofer signal. I have a single big speaker in a room with one main XLR cable plugged in. If I run a 1/8" TSR from my phone to two 1/4" TS cables into, for example, the 5/6 inputs, am I losing one side of the stereo channel? Should I use a box to merge the two TS cables into a single channel input for the mixer? My speaker also has a 2nd XLR input, so maybe it would be better to run two XLR cables to the speaker instead for the two main outputs? Or do I just need to get a 2nd speaker for the 2nd main output to make sure I get the full stereo output?
@kettnercreative
3 жыл бұрын
You have two options. You can either plug the two TS cables into 3/4 and leave them panned centre, or plug them into 5/6 and pan it left (if you're using the left output). Bonus points if you get a 2nd speaker, then you'd actually have stereo.

Bummer. I have the same exact question. This video was awesome!! So clearly explained, but I have been trying to figure out how to use a monitor with this mixer while keeping the effects on as well. I have the larger 24 channel version of this mixing console. I thought the monitor was controlled from the green aux knobs (whichever channel you want and then the master both are up) but I'm confused as to why I'm hardly getting any sound to output when I run a quarter inch speaker cable out to a non powered Sonic brand speaker. I'm going to play around more with it today, but my guess is a non powered speaker just doesn't have the proper capability to it?

A question from a newbie Jordan. Is the "Pad" button on the Yamaha MG10xu the same as the the Hi-Z button on the Mackie ProFX? People say the Hi -Z allows you to plug a guitar directly into the mixer (no need for a D.I Box) but it appears to me that the "Pad" button on the Yamaha does exactly the same thing. Is this the case? Thanks all the way from Australia. LOL.
@kettnercreative

A HI-Z button will adjust the gain and the impedance. A pad will just reduce the gain. I know that a lot of people plug guitars directly into their MG10XU and are happy, but it's not a TRUE Hi-Z input.

I think it makes more sense to output the signal from the control room jacks and mix that volume with the control room vol knob, rather than using FX Send as the control room/floor monitors pathway. This way you can engage effects through main mix. My question is- would the main mix effects also be layered in with the control room pathway?
@kettnercreative

With what you've described, you wouldn't be able to give the musician a custom mix in their floor monitor, they would get a copy of the main stereo mix. Most musicians really just want their vocal in the floor monitor.

@wardf.3274

I like this question! Just tried both FX send and control room out for floor monitor. I agree with Jordan that FX send works best for floor monitor, though it appears neither are able to give you an exact copy of what is coming through your main outs IF you use an effect. When you use control room outs, you only get a copy of your channel knobs, including the channel FX levels. Since you always need the FX level knob on a minimum to get the effect through your main outs, you will ALWAYS have way more effect through your control room outs than through your mains. So not an option in my opinion! When you use FX send (ie for floor monitor), the FX level knob (bottom right) does not influence your FX send, only the relative amount of effect to your main outs. The channel FX levels determine 1) the amount of volume to your FX send for each channel, and 2) the amount of effect (FX not muted) of each channel to your main outs. So to conclude for FX send: if you want effect through your main outs, you need to go in the audience to check if the amount of effect is what you want, since the effect doesn't go to your FX send. Since you don't want too much effect most of the time, that shouldn't be a very big deal I I think, but still something to consider. Also headphones don't help there, because they get the same copy from your channels as control room outs. Hope this helps at least one more person than myself 🙃
