@thereallycoolnameswereallt4587
3 жыл бұрын
Because it's a tip for people who didn't learn to tie any knots. Anyone who can tie two half hitches won't ever need this tip. And you use midshipman's hitches around your stakes to make it adjustable. The idea is to use fewer steps and make it less complicated. So, that's why I downvoted it. Not every innovation is genius. This one ins superfluous.

Definitely a great time saving trick. I will most likely secure the corners with a loop or some simple knot the first time I try this. Just a few wraps of small cordage under the sticks (no knots or just a simple overhand) would likely help keep everything in place in high winds.

This is one of those "Well, duh. Why didn't I think of that" moments, though I suspect a windy day could play havoc with that setup. Adding a couple of Prusik knots made with bank line or more paracord to the ridgeline would be an even better option. Just slip the loop of the Prusik knot through the grommet and insert stick then pull the Prusik knot tight.

The difficulty with the (many) plastic tarps I've owned is they have way too few grommets. Not only is the tarp less useable that way, but also puts extra strain on the few it does have. Good for modifications and repairs as well. Being frustrated too many times, I got myself a self install grommet kit from Harbor Freight. I'm sure they're available elsewhere too.
