1:00 you say the holes must go on the inside but you do not clarify that there is a proper top and bottom orientation as well. This led me to progress until the power supply installation until I noticed. Thank you for the video it was very helpful overall. Maybe my comment can save someone the hassle. You want to orient the second arm so that the holes face the inside and one hole is as close to the bottom as possible.

I watched this video twice, once all the way through before even opening the box, again as I struggled to assemble the thing. I am NOT mechanically inclined and once I figured out that you switch the angle of the video without notice, things got a little easier. Did I have to pause and rewind a few times? Yes, did I struggle and cuss and eat almost an entire box of chocolates from stress? Absolutely! The machine is assembled, tomorrow I will try to figure out how the hell to actually connect it to something to print. By the way, one very important thing, I put the right arm on incorrectly because your video said “make sure the holes are toward the inside” which I did but a VERY important thing is to make sure the arm is set with the smaller distance to the hole on the BOTTOM (which is specified in step TWO of the written instructions which I ignored) until your video got to the step where you add the swItch and I had the rest about 80% assembled and realized the arm was on incorrectly. So I had to take it all apart and figure out how to realign it after re-assembling it. I’m sure you won’t take time to edit the video at this point but maybe someone will read this and avoid that issue. Make sure the holes are on the inside and the shortest space is close to the bottom of the arm (if that makes sense, refer to instructions for visual reference).

I use a few simple tools when setting up a printer a small spirit level , a square and a dial indicator . With these three tools you can compare parallel and square to ensure all of the axis are parallel and square to each other and the z axis is perpendicular to the base . It also helps to set the bed up as the dial indicator can show the deviation of the bed very accurately. No need for expensive tools here just basic cheap stuff is all that is needed .

I saw in the video that your z screw coupling was not bottomed out on the stepper...mine was so I raised it, i also installed the z screw and lifted it a tad before I tightened it down. I also found that my z stepper motor was not tightened down all the way nor was it square to the frame! Lastly the belt tension gantry idler was loose on mine so I got that all tightened up. Just about done printing a temperature tower I found from one of your videos and this is the highest my printer has ever printed! It may actually complete a print! Thank you!!!!

Chuck, you missed a common issue at minute 5. When tightening the z motor to the extrusion it is vital to check that the motor is resting square with the frame. On both of my ender 3s despite the frame being square, once I tightened the screws with the t nuts, the bottom of the motor away from the vertical extrusion pulled up away from the horizontal extrusion. If left as is the motor will now be causing the leadscrew to not be straight up and down in relation to the vertical extrusion. To fix this issue I have placed a small shim, a thin piece of plastic like from a fivestar notebook works great or even an m3 washer (one by each silver screw) depending on the size of the gap you need to accommodate for, between the black plastic piece and the motor. Place it under the plastic piece away from the vertical extrusion to offset the gap. Then tighten back down the silver screws. Now attach the motor to the vertical extrusion. Shine a flashlight or your phone light on one side of the motor and look at the other side to see if any light is passing through to check for any remaining gap. This will ensure the leadscrew is straight in relation to the frame.
@FilamentFriday

However Michelle also right bout the point of reference, sometimes when it's zoomed in so much your not sure exactly where on the machine you are working on. But I still think the video was great! When checking for square with 2 rullers i tried your twist method but it kept lifting one set of leggs up and it rocked. I found that if i loosened the 4 screws of the y axis i could shift for square. I have a scale engraved with 120 lines per inch. I started out of square by 1/8 inch and got it down to 2 marks or about .016 inches. Is that good enough? I bought a used machine and keep finding screws or missing parts. This video is great. It's perfect speed, nice and quick and to the point!! Thank you for not making an hour long video. Please don't get discouraged by those complaining about going too fast. If they are too slow to figure out how to use the pause button then that is their problem!! 🙂 It was seriously perfect the way you did it. With all the added tips it was absolutely perfect. Thanks again for the great video!

What big words didn't you understand? I don't currently have a 3d printer. I am just watching videos to see how hard the assembly is on the ender 3. He seemed pretty clear to me.

Hi Chuck, thanks for your video. I recently replaced my motherboard and extruder with a direct drive and could not figure out where the E axis cable went on the stepper motor. Your video was the only one that showed this . Thanks Scott

Thanks for the advice. I have heard about drilling the hole I'm the frame but hadn't seen any footage of it being done or how exactly it helps. I'm going to re-square the top frame and the gantry using your tips.
