I have 3 ASUS VG248 24” 144htz gaming Monitors arranged side by side with a Mount-It! Triple Monitor Mount | Desk Stand with USB and Audio Ports | 3 Counter-Balanced Gas Spring Height Adjustable Arms for three 24 27 30 32 Inch VESA Screens. I have had this setup for 4 years and have been very happy with it. With Windows 10 or 11 it can easily be configured with a couple of minor settings changes, to act as one continuous screen 13” high but 59” across when they are set in a semicircular arrangement, for a true surround effect display. I have gamed with it set up in this fashion, and frankly, I found it a bit disorienting and on occasion cause slight nausea. I typically use each monitor to display something different. The two outer monitors display the Web browser on the left and my email client on the right monitor. While using the center monitor for file viewing or watching movies. I will eventually go to newer monitors with a smaller screen bezel, or perhaps one of the new extra-large curved monitors. After using this setup for 4 years I cannot imagine going back to a single monitor even a very large one.

By the title in your video, I assumed you would be demonstrating how to connect two monitors to a PC (or to a laptop). You demonstrated how to add a second monitor to your laptop. I was hoping to see how to have a Windows computer feed video to two stand-alone monitors, and be able to use them in such a way that your mouse travels from one monitor to the next monitor. Will Windows allow you to use more than one of your computer's display ports, to feed more than one monitor? Or is some type of hardware needed that will take a single output from your PC and split it to have a two-monitor display? Thank you.

If you have multiple display ports and your graphics card supports it, you can connect multiple monitors. For instance, the NVIDIA RTX 3080 supports up to four monitors connected simultaneously. You only need a splitter in the situation that your GPU doesn't support the number of monitors you want to connect to. When splitting, you'll lose some resolution for each signal.

@@KevinStratvert Perhaps I should have been more detailed in my initial comment (I wanted to keep it concise). My friend has a laptop. He does not use his laptop's monitor. He has his laptop connected to an external monitor. He wants to add a second external monitor (side-by-side) and use his laptop's keyboard and mouse to travel between the two monitors, as if it were one ultra-wide monitor. I do not know what type of display output ports he has. Assuming he has only 1, can he accomplish his goal? Is that where the "splitter" you referred to comes in? If yes, any recommendations? And because the majority of the chip manufacturers are supporting Windows and Mac only, you got hit and miss situation on Linux. But there is one awesome company that offers Linux drivers: DisplayLink. I love these guys, I love the dock I bought and won't look into any other product without DisplayLink inside. I only wish they are more vigilant with the latest kernel support, but no complains here! I'm typing this message with 2x monitors on my laptop :D

I'm a little late in finding this...but, nice work! My question is: I want to connect my laptop AND my desktop to a docking station with dual monitors, so I can use either my desktop or my laptop, and have both monitors (and my laptop screen!) working at the same time. I have a Wavlink docking station (which I might exchange or a different one...). Problem (or, challenge for you): my desktop is an older one, and has DVI, VGA and some SS USB ports. But it does NOT have more current ports, like HDMI or Thunderbolt... I CAN get an HDMI Alt - to DVI cable, for the desktop. My laptop has a USB-C port, an HDMI, and two SS USB ports. One of my monitors has a VGA port and an HDMI port. My other monitor has two HDMI ports and one DisplayPort... I think all I need to do is get an HDMI Alt-to DVI cable for the desktop, and everything else should work...right? I DO have HDMI cables for the monitors-to-docking station connections.

I would appreciate it very much if you could help me. I have a laptop that is not showing no screen signal at all. It doesn't even work on my HDMI wire. The problem is, is that I tried to reconfigure my settings for my laptop screen. Just to let you know from the beginning, my laptop never worked at 144HZ. It only worked at 60hz And we configured it. It rebooted at 144 and I had no screen. I've tried everything. Can someone help please? Thank you.

Thank you again. I followed you up to about min 4. Q: is it possible to see 2 different windows from the same program on a pair of screens, laptop and external monitor? For example, in Microsoft Flight Simulator, showing cockpiti n 1 and external shot in 2. I think it is do-able. Could you show how? Go raibh maith agat.

Hi Kevin, I have a Dell Alienware x14 R2 laptop with a QVGA screen and a 32" 4K Samsung Monitor (LS32B800PXWXXL) connected through a HDMI 2.1V cable. I need to duplicate the laptop 💻 screen onto the monitor but the 'Duplicate' option does not provide separate screen resolutions. If I set the Display as 4K, the laptop screen becomes smaller and black 🔳 bars appear on top and bottom. If I select QVGA, the monitor screen shrinks and black 🔳 strips appear on the left and the right. Is there any way out to tell the Windows 🪟 to maintain two different screen resolutions while in 'Duplicate' mode? Thanks in advance.

Very helpful. However I can't drag my second window onto the 2nd screen because the top of the window is off my 1st screen. How did that happen? 🤷

Adjust the positioning of the windows in display settings. Make sure that tops of the screens are lined up how you want them.
