I had virgin broadband paying 44 quid a month and now prices up another 3 quid so 47 quid, a month just for the internet. so I got now this broadband with 3 and this routter I am paying 10 quid a month for the first 7 months and after 20 quid and I am getting nearly 50 mbps everyday, so guess what I did I tell virgin to fuck off and now I am saving 34 quid every month towards my annual holidays, is a no brainer if you ask me, it all depend ur area, but i couldn't be happier with my choice

I thoroughly recommend the Orbi! I've had such miserable WIFI in my home and Orbi just made it feel like I've got LAN cabled all over the house. Amazing speeds and coverage. Its expensive but it depends how pissed off you are with what you've got now. I tried extenders and net through the power supply and so on and so on. All pretty mediocre with issues. Orbi just works. Dead easy to setup, looks cool and has a fantastic phone based interface where you can do things like one click speed tests. Super cool, expandable too but I just have two that covers my whole house.

@@pigking188 Unlike a typical broadband connection, you are not supplied with your own unique public IP address. Instead you share one with other users of the mobile carrier. This results in games and other applications being unable to forward their ports to allow connections in and out of your network. As I sad, this mainly affects multiplayer games like Call of Duty as they rely on a 'NAT Type' connection where if these ports cannot be forwarded, the connection will remain closed and you will be unable to play online. Hope that explains it well as I found this out the hard way once!

Never put it on a window ledge if you can help it? Half your WiFi will be beamed out through the window. You need the signal to bounce back in. Thanks for that Vince, I've been following your tips for a long time now. We're in the country and 'exchange line only' i.e. copper cable to the exchange. Although the exchange is fibre enabled, Openreach have no plans to improve our connection. BT quote us 5mbs down and 1mbs up but using your tips I got that up to 7.5mbs down with the phone line. However, I recently changed to a 4G router and a Three 12 month unlimited data contract. We only get a 3G signal and although the signal strength is 75-100%, the signal quality is poor at -85 to -90dBm. Moving the router and now with an external antenna makes little difference, but my download is now a fairly stable 15-20mbs and 1.9mbs upload. That might not sound great, but it's twice to three times better down and double the speed up! Thanks again for the videos and good luck with the channel.

@jimporter
3 жыл бұрын
Most LTE providers (EE, Vodafone, O2) use CGNAT so you will not even get a public IP address just a private one, so it will be a problem if you want to get outside access to your network. If you go with Three as he does here then you have a choice. If you use the APN “three.co.uk” then you will get CGNAT same as the others, but if you use “3internet” then you will get a dynamic public IP address which you can then use to set up DDNS with either a paid or free DDNS provider. You can potentially get around the CGNAT problem but it would mean setting up a VPN connection with a third party provider.

I've got the same setup. In my loft, it was bimbling around 15Mbps. I bought and external aerial and no matter where o put it upstairs, the signal & speed didn't get better - in fact it got worse. Like Vince said, try it all over the house... And similar to him, the best signal for the router alone was in the kitchen. I positioned my external router outside and tried various positions and the best one was about 7feet off the ground in the opposite side of the house to where the masts were located!! (Found this using the Cell Tower location finder app) and now I'm getting 50, 60 and sometime 70Mbps. Use either of those apps to find the optimal setting of RSRQ, RSRP and SNIR. A couple of tips - go into the router settings (if you've got a Huawei, use the Huawei Manager app or the 3rd party HuaCtrl app) so make sure the antenna is set to EXTERNAL. Another tip is to set the receiving signal to just channel 3 (1800Mhz, or 3 and 20 (800Mhz). 3 on its own works best for me. (Using the frequency locking option of the apps)

Okay, this is for beginners, that's okay. I am not a beginner so.....however, what I will say, BAD on Three for the Huawei router considering all the events and controversy surrounding them, and other Chinese companies etc. Not that you personally had a choice maybe. Just saying though. However, depending on the make and model, yeah basic setup guide, better when you have WPS push button to do the work for you. Now hook up a "honey pot" system and your own web server, file server, firewall both software and hardware etc. (just joking). However the honey pot would be good and a DMZ (De-Militarized Zone) for hacking attempts is a nice feature, doesn't have to be major PCs, just cheap old PCs that can connect is enough, just make sure any unwanted traffic is routed their way. ESPECIALLY with Chinese hardware and Huawei lol.

2021 today's date. I just got a 5G which is not available in my area, but was a 43 inch TV freeish with the deal, rather than with a 32 inch with 4G. My speed tests with three are SHIT I am getting 4.73 with my Pixel 4A, if I use my EE data and run the same speed test that is 43 mbps. I ran both tests in the same location. Three say that their hub is plug and play, but I had to register the sim card to get it to work, which only happened when I phoned their helpline, I am an IT user of 40 years and out of the box this is the hardest thing that I have ever had to set up. The instructions make it sound so simple, and the wording from Three make it sound so simple, I am using the 5G Huawei pro 2 as well so I am really shocked by the very bad speeds. However, keep it and get another 43 inch TV that I don't need or go on copper until fibre is back in my cabinet? EE, BT and Voda are £20 more expensive. Hopefully I am doing something wrong, so I shall have a better look tomorrow, but hey ho.
