@@JasonRobertsVideo absolutely will! My mic will be here tomorrow. I'm a controlled studio setting, and advice on the settings?
@JasonRobertsVideo
3 жыл бұрын
I would say first try and make the studio less reflective/echo-y - if you clap you hands you shouldn't be able to hear much of and echo/"flutter". Then just experiment with the different settings, the setting I show in the video should work fine but it might depend on how far away you are from the mic :)

Hey Jason, Great video, definitely the best comparison ive seen for this mic. Idk if you ran into this issue with the mic but I get a lot of like buzzing or white noise underlying the audio. I am using a canon rebel SL2 or I believe 200D is the same one. Did you run into that at all? Any idea how to fix that? I'm doing a self set up on a tripod about 5 ft from the camera. I followed everything you did with the manual audio settings and I still get that constant humm/fuzz background noise.
@JasonRobertsVideo
4 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks! - I've never had any buzzing or white noise. Make sure the cable is pushed in properly on both at the camera and on the mic. For example on the mic when you push the plug in properly there will be 2 little clicks before it is fully in. Hope that helps :)

The Rode manual says the Auto Power feature will ONLY work if the camera supplies plug-in power. I tried connecting a mic to a Canon XA20 camcorder and a Canon Vixia HF R72 and the auto power feature did not work. Do Canon camcorders generally not provide plug-in power? Just some DSLR cameras? Who can provide information on this?
@JasonRobertsVideo
4 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the Canon camcorders, you'd have to check the specs for each camera you'd want to use with the mic, e.g. www.canon-europe.com/for_home/product_finder/camcorders/professional/xa20/specification.html

Thank you for your video sir. I don't understand why anyone would use the -10 and 0db? I'm new to mics and the lingo, but is there a reason someone would use those settings? Seems like for recording anything almost you'd need to be at +20db?
@JasonRobertsVideo

Hi Jorge, it's about setting the right level for the loudness of the sound you are recording, if you were speaking loud/close to the mic you might end up overloading and "clipping" the audio which sounds really bad. I did another vid on the safety track feature that shows what clipping is as well: kzitem.info/news/bejne/uG-luKKhhXl7lpg Hope that helps :) Jason

Thanks it was helpful but would have been even more useful if the test was done outdoor. Because the biggest challenge with this microphone is with noices from traffic you record someone talking. Will this mic be enough in those circumstances?
@JasonRobertsVideo
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ananda, even though these kind of mics are shotgun mics (pick sound up mostly from the front) you will get some sounds not directly in front. It also depends how close (and loud) the person is talking to the mic and how far away/noisy the traffic is in comparison. Other options are to try the mic on a boom pole to get it closer to the subject or instead try a Lapel/Lavalier mic. Hope that helps :)

Hey! I purchased the VMP+ a while ago and use it for my videos. I still have some issues with my audio. Even after I edited the audio in Adobe Premiere Pro (noise cancelling, multiband compressor etc.) I still don’t like how it sounds. I think that yours sounds way cleaner than mine.. What do you think could be the reason? My camera? The room? I‘m using the Canon EOS 200D & changing the audio settings (what you did in your video) isn’t available.. Could my camera be the reason? I‘d really appreciate it if you could watch my latest video and maybe tell me the reason for why my audio sounds so crappy 🙏🏽 Thanks already

You could try using the audio safety track like I explain in this video ( kzitem.info/news/bejne/uG-luKKhhXl7lpg ) - this might help if the poor quality is your audio clipping (too loud and overloading)

I guess depending on what room you shoot in, +20dB with no high pass sounds far the best. The other settings could take too much editing to proceed when recording vlogs

Yeah, you could also create some audio presets in your NLE if you're recording in the same space (studio, office, etc) where the environment is the same just to speed up editing

@JasonRobertsVideo
4 жыл бұрын
Not much the mic can do about it, sometime I hear a bit with my Canon USM lens when autofocus is on. There's always manual focus I guess if your standing still. You might be able to reduce the noise a bit in post, perhaps with notch EQ for the specific focus motor requences.

Cool - I think you will like it. I have used it close up holding my camera while vlogging and also from 2-3 meters away. If you are farther away you might need to adjust the gain in camera. I have another video coming out soon that also shows how to use the safety track on the mic that lets you record a quieter signal on one channel so if you clip/overload the audio you can still try and fix it in editing :)
