Thank you so much for this video. This sample dress is exactly like my daughter’s dress and I was struggling to find a method for her heavy train. This going to work!! You are a great instructor!!

Thank you, I am A NOVICE bridal seamstress, have been sewing for years, and love formal and prom dresses, but constantly being asked to do bridal......just starting on some easy alterations. Thankyou

Oh that’s awesome!! I love that. That is exactly why I do this channel. I was there once. A seamstress for a long time who loved formals and then kept getting asked to do bridal. I started way back before youtube and I think the internet was pretty new. I had to “fake” my way through it. 😂 I still remember someone calling and asking what the price difference was between my regular bustles and my French bustles. I hadn’t even heard of a French bustle. But I said yes to the job, told her it was the same price and booked her appointment. When I got off the phone, I told my daughter “help, look up French bustle online and help me figure it out.” 😂 she was a high school student at the time. I’m so glad we now have a platform to help each other out. I’m so grateful you are joining me on this journey!! Happy sewing and God bless! - Christa

I'm also just getting into some simpler wedding dress alterations. I grew up learning to sew in 4-H, and Learn By Doing was our theme. That's definitely how I've been growing my business!! Thank you so much for this tutorial. It is one of my favorites ❤.

Absolutley amazing & informative video! Would the clear buttons work well with a satin bridal gown for an american bustle too?
@christasdressshoppe
5 ай бұрын
Thank you sooo much! Sometime they look great on satin gowns and sometimes they stand out like a sore thumb. It’s something you have to try out. Lay them on the skirt and stand back to see. If not, try a satin covered button to match. Just make sure they have a strong, metal or hard plastic shank. Many of the buttons today are soft plastic and won’t last. I hope that helps. ♥️

Hello. I had a question. I have a customer who wants her train shortened to same length as the front once it's hemmed Do you have any suggestions? I believe I know how but that is not something that I have done.
@christasdressshoppe
28 күн бұрын
I’ve done it many times before. Instead of fading out to the train go ahead and finish the hem all the way around. I put it on my mannequin and map it out with pins. I like to still have the back a little longer than the front. So it slightly drags on the floor. Then I just finish it the same as I would do the front hem. Depending on the style of dress.

@christasdressshoppe let me go through the steps that I think you would do. The dress has lace with scalloped edge as far as I know. So my thoughts are to pin to the floor while the bride is in the dress. Then once I get started I was thinking that I would do the inner layers first. For the back ( from side seam to side seam) and following the flare of the train add a couple inches from ny pins so it has the flare. Then I will probably have to remove the lace then renew? SCARY

How do you bustle a plain flat dress with no lace?
@christasdressshoppe
5 ай бұрын
I do choose different buttons for satin dresses. Sometimes covered buttons look great on them. Other times I try a French Bustle (up and under instead of up and over) - that way you can hide clear simple buttons under. Some seamstresses use ribbons for French bustles or hooks. I found the hooks I have tried didn’t stay attracted with much dancing.
