Once again, your tutorials get me through another boat job. I recently started taking on the bigger jobs. My first T-top was a success. Ty so much for making these videos. You give me the confidence to take on the challenge.

@@SailriteDIY your videos are very helpful and informative. When you get time. Some ideas would be a showercurtain style cover that attaches around your t top and goes down to the floor (deck) of the boat( popular here in florida)and a bow mounted trolling motor cover.

I know this is a old thread. But instead of cutting off all the excess, why not mark for fold allowance, fold under the straight places then see corners in with 1/2" seam, then see those in place, fold under, sew around edge, do away with the binding. 🤔

How do you calculate the lenght of the leech line so you ha e enough at the end
@SailriteDIY

You can find the calculations for the leechline at min 5:02 in the video. Perimeter of Top x 3.5 = Length of line

Great video! Your instructions are so clear; I'll be ordering materials from your site. If I'm using canvas for my t-top, do I use the same vinyl binding that you did, or do I use acrylic/polyester?
@SailriteDIY

If you are using Sunbrella Marine Grade fabric (often called canvas) then I would use Sunbrella® Acrylic Bias Binding Tape 1" Here is a link: www.sailrite.com/Notions/Trims/Bindings/Brand/Sunbrella/Width/1%22/type/Products?order=custitem_popularity

Is the 4 inch spacing between the grommets measured from center of grommet to center of grommet or from edge of grommet to edge of grommet?
@SailriteDIY

Spacing of grommets is always measured from center to center.

Question. Do nickel grommets rust or corrode or will the stay nice and shiny in saltwater use?
@SailriteDIY
4 жыл бұрын
Nickel plated brass grommets will in time start to tarnish a slight greenish powder like color, they do not rust. Stainless steel grommets will also tarnish over time turning a whitish powder like color. Can they both (nickel plated brass and stainless steel) be used in a saltwater environment? Yes, absolutely

WRONG !! The lacing process is completely UPSIDE DOWN. The rope MUST lay on topside between grommet to grommet for maximum wind UPLIFT protection for the higher speeds water/highway.
@SailriteDIY
5 жыл бұрын
We do show it both ways with the rope on the bottom which give a better shape to the top cupping the edges of the T-Top downward. Then at 39:35 min we show it with the line on top cupping the T-Top edges upwards. The choice to lace with the lines on the top or bottom is yours to make.

The stitch going on top from grommet to grommet offers little added wind protection. The lace from the top to the pipe does. Water run off is much more important than(especially with fabric l know first hand)that up wind nonsense. You would have to do 100 mph to maybe,again maybe rip that top the way that top material is assembled and the line used to lace it. No way . like they said do it your way
