Hey everyone! The pics of the final skirt are in the description box. I will note it again here: www.stylesewme.com/blog/diy-box-pleated-skirt-ankara-skirt I've noted this at the very beginning of this video. Any comments asking me for pics will be deleted because it's the first thing noted in the info box. :) Thanks!

Style Sew Me Thank you for sharing. I do have a question. How do I measure so the hem of my skirt is not hiked up in the back? My butt is kinda big. I don't want to make the skirt with the front longer than the back when I put it on. Thanks for this video. I will be making me a skirt.
@claudiawright5231
7 жыл бұрын
Nicole!!! I feel you on that issue! I was thinking the same thing with the one continuous piece method. Probably like me when you have side seams on a skirt you do a gradual slant/slope from the side seams to the back to account for that. In this case I'm thinking once we reach our final width of pleats and before cutting the bottom we can fold it where the middle front will be and do a similar gradual slope to the middle where the zipper seam will be? I think I will try that -- will be easier to adjust from that rather than it being too short and not have the look we want. Hope the best for us both!

Hi! I just finished sewing my very first "wearable" skirt with the help of Your instructions. I turned out to be a little bit wonky because I thought I could add some more elements (pockets and lining) to learn even more while wasting less fabric and it didn't turn out as well as I imagined. It fits me perfectly though, which is a very nice surprise. I'll definitely go buy some nicer fabrics to find out if my second try will look decent. Thank You very much for this tutorial. If I hadn't found it, I would've probably given up on sewing.

I learned a lot from this tutorial. However, I have a suggestion that I would like for you to consider. It is that you use a plain, basic light color material. This would show more detail and make it easier to see the stitches, hems, zipper, folds ect. Also could you include a pocket in this skirt? Thank you>
@Stylesewme
7 жыл бұрын
I have a premium tutorial that includes how to measure and create this skirt with pockets. I'll take the fabric feedback into consideration. Since this is a free tutorial, I try to keep my expenses minimal and use fabric that I would actually wear, but still film where views can see the important details.

All of your tutorials are great. I have a question about the direction you laid out your skirt. Typically patterns are cut with the stretch going around the body ie selvage to selvage. But you cut yours the other way, Have you run into any problems with stretch of the fabric going up and down instead of around the body?
@Stylesewme
6 жыл бұрын
Good question. The fabric doesn't stretch at all so I had no problems. Patterns can recommend best practices but always feel free to experiment with pattern placement. It's especially fun with striped and printed fabrics.

Hi I have been sewing since High School and I even tried my hand in going to the Art Institute in NY but unfortunately I had to drop out after a year, I went to my Mother with my problem and thank God she continued to show me how to sew and make my own patterns out of my own clothes, well making a long story short I was interested in starting my own business now I am not so sure yes I do still make clothes, my Grand Kids are my model its just personal clothes making for just my family but I feel that I still have alot to learn before making my hobby into a small business and my Mom is no longer with us but I am happy she taught me a little more about sewing I have just started watching your video on business and how you made your skirt I want to be good like you and I need help.

This looks amazingly easy. I wanna do one. I'm just wondering what kind of fabric would you recommend? Does it have to be a thick cotton so we can see the pleates ? Thanks
@Stylesewme
6 жыл бұрын
A medium weight would be my preference to make sure you get crisp pleats that hang nicely. A lightweight cotton will give you a more billowy look and may wrinkle more easily. You can do it!
