I know this is an older video but I am so happy I found it!!! I am very new to sewing and this helped me so much with a few of my patterns that called for foam. I didn’t know what to do and now that you have shown a simple technique I am so excited to try it out. Thank you so very much!!!!!!!!

Thank you! The foam will drive me crazy with the thickness of only a 1/8 SA. It will be so much easier now. Thanks to you for sharing!

Thank you, Allie. All I've seen is other people sewing the foam and attaching with tape but this feels much more secure.

can this method also be used for making chair cushions. my cushions now are quilted, I do not want to quilt them on the new fabric. Will your method work on a much larger scale.

I think so. If just joining around the edges, it should work. Let me know if it works out for you.

Thanks for sharing. Do you have any tips for the drag of the foam when you have it on top and bottom?
@AllieSewCrafty
2 жыл бұрын
Do you mean when the foam is moving around? I use a walking foot and that really helps to move the fabric and the foam at the same speed when sewing it. Also, if the foam is not fusible, I spray it with basting adhesive and that prevents the foam from moving. :) Hope that helps!

@@AllieSewCrafty no it’s like sticking to my pressure foot and sewing machine because when you put the seams together the material is inside and the foam is top and bottom. I think part of my problem was too short stitch length for the thickness. I did see another video that a lady used a narrow strip of interfacing just under the pressure foot so I may try that.

@@jhwilliams6550 Anytime any material or foam sticks to the presser foot I also try a piece of tissue paper between the foam and presser foot. Or you can put a piece of tape under the presser foot as well and that will allow it to slide better. Make sure the feeding dogs are raised too, that will help feed the foam or material under the presser foot.

So, new foam user here. If I do the zig zag stitch all around the front of the bag piece, say, is that all I have to do? I don't have to quilt the piece? Thank you so much! I've been trying to find this out for so long, without any luck.
@AllieSewCrafty
Жыл бұрын
Hi! That is correct. I started to zigzag all around the piece to join the foam to the fabric because I didn’t want to quilt it and I didn’t have fusible foam. This helped me keep the fabric and foam together when sewing 😊 So glad I could help!
