After all of those drawing books my parents gave me for Christmas growing up, not ONE of them talked about shading techniques beyond "shade the sphere in a gradient". I can't believe I've gone all this time without knowing the basics. Thank you for the video, these small tweaks really make my drawings pop

Well, a lot of drawing books try to cover it all, but don't go into a lot of detail... Thanks for the big compliment! I really appreciate it!

@@BueskenArt awesome videos, I'm glad I found your channel!! 🙌 About the drawing books, I think my parents perhaps just didn't understand which books were good. They either came along with something like a charcoal set or it was a "how to draw animals" type of book. Those books tend to show step by step generic frameworks for a specific image rather than reusable drawing techniques. I think of it as similar to googling a computer problem for a step by step guide, rather than taking a computer class to understand troubleshooting techniques.

Ah yes, I know what you mean. Those kind of books make it seem like everything is just a specific step by step process... but they don't explain fundamental principles.

Dude, I stumbled upon your channel while trying to understand Midtones in the context of creating Art. After watching that one video, I have just watched another 3 of your videos in a row and I am loving it. You are doing a great job ! I especially like how you provide visual examples to explain the concepts . Like when you showcased the "before" and "after" pictures for combining loop + rim lighting. Nice one! This video has been really great. Breaking-down and explaining these concepts into snackable slices, that are manageable to assimilate, and leveraging easy to understand language, is just swell. This information was previously hard to come by, especially, without running into some sort of "pay-wall" , that doesn't even guarantee that one will acquire the education that the aspiring artist requires, in order to thrive and progress in skill-level and approach. Anyway, I just want to say KUDOS! Your contribution definitely gets 2 Thumbs up from me. I am going to be visiting your channel often and drawing inspiration from the video collection you have curated, to round-off my exploits and endeavours within the art world. Thank a bunch !

@@BueskenArt haha. Sorry if my comment sounded too over the top or insincere. I've been a little frustrated with how none of youtube's top recommendations didnt really simplify the planes of the head and how to use them( for me), until I came across your asaro head video. This is the third video of yours that I have watched since then and I m just really excited because they progress perfectly for me. 😁 As for topic requests, i want to go through more of your videos first. But if it makes sense, please make a video on value composition when there are two lights on the face and the shadow edges Thanks. 🤓

Cool, I hope my other videos will help you, as well! 😀 Concerning your video request, can you try to specify? I don't quite understand, yet. Have you watched my "How To Shade A Face" series? Part 3 is about shading with two light sources. Maybe that helps. Or what is it you need help with exactly?

@@BueskenArt Hi again. In watercolor should I do the shadow first or paint the light color over the entire face and then do the shadow over top. I have a hard time with this and hope you can help. Thanks for any insight you can give❣️
@BueskenArt
Жыл бұрын
Hi Shirley! I'm no watercolor expert - the last time I used it was back in school... several years ago. 😃 But in watercolor tutorials it's generally recommended to work from light to dark, since watercolor is translucent. It's hard to undo mistakes in dark values. You can't really paint with light over dark. So I suggest you do it the other way round. I think you will figure it out! 🙂
