Been looking for a way to sharpen rescue hooks for a while without having to send them back into Benchmade! Thanks Sherman, you're awesome!

Great video but it could have been 2 minutes long rather than ten. GET TO THE POINT !

The higher grit the higher the polish. I've noticed two camps on youtube; those who believe that the smoother the blade the lower the blade's drag coefficient will be, and those who contend that sharpening at lower grits creates more effective micro serrations as the edge will not flat as it would at higher grits. Personally I'd have to do some research to what's more important, but I think the high-polish seems to have shown better results in straight push cutting, which is important for hooks.

Great Idea. I am going to try it. Bought a Smith's samll sharpener. It works OK, but using hte sandpaper I'll get a nicer finish and it will be sharper.

So do you push the abrasive against the cutting edge? Like you do with a conventional stone and knife Or push the rod away from the cutting edge? Like you do when stropping with leather?
