That was a very informative video, Jeff! I have often wondered if you could sharpen nail clippers. Many times I just buy a new pair if they get dull just because they are so cheap. I will definitely try this though. I do enjoy sharpening. I always sharpen knives though but this will definitely be a good experience too.

Although I learned how to disassemble my nail clippers, I noticed a few things. 1.) You do not have to take your nail clippers apart to sharpen them in the way in which you’ve demonstrated in this video. 2.) You do not have to disassemble your nail clippers to clean them. Simply soak them in rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.

Thanks. My dad owned an ancient pair of toenail clippers for maybe a decade, and I just gave 'em a polish with 1000 grit sandpaper wrapped around a highlighter. Works better than new now. :) (And yes, I did clean out all the gunk inside the clippers...gross!)

Thank you so much! I actually found this video VERY exciting! 🤣 I have several pairs of nail clipper pliers (I think that’s what they’re called) including some German-made steel ones that cost me over $40. Without fail, something ALWAYS happens that jacks up my clippers (Eg: drops on floor, used on something other than nails, finding them in kid’s room, etc) and I’m sick of buying them. Was searching for a way to sharpen the clippers when I came across your video. Since sharpening is your specialty, I think a video on a sharpening technique to correct tweezers would be super helpful (as this is an ongoing issue for anyone that uses them) along with one on how to specifically sharpen the plier design clippers. Thanks again!

I fail to see why it's of any benefit to take them apart to sharpen them when you have better leverage to hold them together when they aren't apart and the piece that you remove doesn't get in the way of you sharpening them.

Kind of self explanatory but I'm here because I messed up a pair of rapala fishing line clippers (basically big nail clippers with a hook puller and textured lever) by trying to crush a barb when I was really desperate and had no forceps. I did the same thing with a small ceramic rod but I wanted to see if anyone else has done the same. I was not surprised when I saw you were the one who uploaded lol.

Try to get a pair without the nail cleaner - In my experience they cut allot cleaner than those with the nail cleaner. I think they weaken the joint as the nail cleaner have to turn out and therefore the rivet have to be slightly loose, This will make the clipper not close as precise as those just riveted tightly.

does matter which way the pin faces, hook must face toward the handle when the clippers are in the "cutting" position if in the position the hook is facing the blade then after some use the leverage is being pivoted in the wrong direction and the pin will break. (unless of course you have weak/thin nails and thus your able to be really gently with the cutters) this hapopens less on finger nail clippers than toe nail clippers for obvious reasons.
