Chris, in my job I am required to qualify with my firearm every quarter of the year. Shooting is one of my struggles of my job. Often time I am required to remediate my qualifications in order to keep my job. After many books and videos, your are the ones that made the difference. Watching your videos has made a good marksmanship with my weapon and I don't worry about losing my job anymore. I can't thank you enough for your training videos they made a big difference in how I now shoot with my weapon. Thank you for your past service to our great country and now to your fellow man. Thank you!!!!!!

Thanks Chris. I recently bought my first gun. the first couple times at the range I wanted to get used to handling recoil and proper grip. The last time I went to the range. I drove home thinking that I have horrible eyes and crappy sights. Watching your video has helped me understand that I now need to practice with my focus. I was telling my wife that all I see is a white line when aiming. Now I need to focus on the front sight and keep my gun pointed at the target. Thanks a bunch!!

Thanks Chris for your Over The Top informative Vids. I am an Armed Security Officer and because I was based in Australia, and now I am back in Italy, I really couldn't practice that much at the shooting range over there, as they have really strict rules for guns, even if it's a tool we constantly work with everyday for our job. In Italy it's easier to own your personal gun, so finally at least I will go from now on every week, at the shooting range to practice. Your videos are truly unbelievable and I thank you for helping everyone here to improve our skills. I am not that good, mainly because in Oz I couldn't practice. I promise I will improve a lot of gaps in my shooting. God bless you man and so your Family. I already signed as a member in your website. Thanks again for everything. Carus 👍👍👍😁

It is the most valuable lesson I ever received for three years, I started to shoot. I "saw" the front sight clearly, maybe just a month ago and the results have improved immediately. Chris, until recently I have never really spent anytime firing a pistol ( I am 58). I bought my first pistol a few weeks ago. First range day was unimpressive. I hit the target but not consistently. So, went online to figure out how to fix my shooting. I found your lessons and started training, with a plan. Wow what an amazing difference. Next range day, I could consistently place shots exactly where I intended. I can easily group five rounds into a 1 inch circle at 30 feet. With one eye closed, for now Still working on keeping both eyes open. Thanks.

Wonderful video Chris! At the age of 14, I learned the art of focusing from an adult hunter. I had a pellet gun at the time and I couldn't hit squat. The hunter put a small orange mark on the tip of the front sight and I started hitting everything dead center! I am 69 now and have used the same principle on all my guns. I also learned to shoot with both eyes open. I don't hunt anymore but go to the gun range about 3 times a month. Still shooting good.

Crazy that I found this video. I was at the range on Tuesday practicing teqnique and I noticed my groups were far better when I focused on the front sight leaving the target blurry. I remember I read somewhere that you should focus on the front sight but that's all I remembered so I tried "looking at it" and focusing on it. Going to try this again Monday.

If you think about it, you'll not likely have time to extend arms a not settle in for when you need to shoot. Think old western shooting. Few actually aimed with sites....shot from the hip. Finger pointed at target. Look at marksman videos, fastest draws etc. As an example, you come out of bedroom get shot in arm from burglar and have to shoot from a prone position in pain. Or similar outside...target shooting isn't same as real life. What he says about eye movements..its true

I'm not a bullseye shooter. I'm more accurate on my "push out" to full extention, front sight on target, as seen through my Snake Eyes sight, smooth trigger pull, I hit center mass. If I waiver in that, I'm over thinking my sight picture, and I'll pull the shot. Practice makes perfect they say! 😂

These principles will be immediately familiar to anyone who served in the Marine Corps. Here's a trick I use in daily life to help my focus and marksmanship....as I walk down the street, or through the park with my dog, I keep a dispersed focus, taking in as much visual information as possible. Ten I choose one thing to focus on, and change my focus to tunnel vision on that object. Then I raise my arm, all the while keeping that focus, so that my index finger appears in my field of view, and covers half the object. Then I change my point of focus to the tip of my index finger, making to object blurry. Its kind of a 4 step process from start to finish. I take my time at first, then see how fast I can go through all four steps- keeping them all distinct.

Back in the day during a fierce, up close fire fight, we troopers only pointed and shot our 1911 Colt .45 ACP pistols at an approaching enemy that was less that 5 to 7 ft. from our position. After the war, I never fired a firearm again. Recently I decided to start shooting pistol range rentals to see if I still had the skill in shooting from 3 yds. away. Boy, did I suck! I had my eye glued on the target and not on the front sight. My groupings were all over the place. Now I plan on taking your advice and start concentrating only on the front sight with a blurry back round target. Thanks, Chris.

I'll assume you already made your purchase, but I'll go ahead and say the Glock 19 would be an excellent choice. It's not so much the "right" pistol. The important thing is to become proficient with which one you choose. If you are looking to step into CC, you need a lot more training than what is taught in the classes for CC. You're making a great investment in personal and/or family protection by going this route, and I applaud you on your decision. Shoot regularly, take some advanced courses (as an example tacticalresponse.com) from people who have combat experience and practice, practice, practice. It may be the difference between life and death in a bad situation. You will walk away with knowledge, experience and the confidence to handle whatever could come up in your life. Note: I am not affiliated with any professional courses or any of the people in the link I gave as an example. It's just the closest one to my location. There are several excellent courses scattered across the country.

i have worn progressive glasses for years, front sight focus is not possible without tilting your head way back. so i came up with my own method, I place the whole slide top and sides centered with what ever i am shooting at, leveling off the top, works great on non moving targets, works for me. to be clear its like projecting the shape of the man target with the shape of the slide and front sight. leaving equal distance on both sides of the sight picture.

I was just recently given a Competition Electronics Pocket Pro II Shot Timer for my birthday and (like most people) don't get to shoot 1000 rounds a week like I wish I did. After watching this video, I dug out my Pro Timer, set it to a random start (1-4 seconds window) with a Par Time (Second Beep) at 30.00 seconds. Using the techniques in this video, I put a contrasting sticky note on my wall. I stand about 10 feet away from the sticky note and push the start button on the timer. During the random delay, I acquire my sight picture and focus on the front sight. Focusing hard. Hard enough to make the sticky note disappear. When the timer beeps a second time, the 30 seconds are up and I rest my eyes for 60 seconds. I call this drill the 30/60. There is no dry fire, only proper grip and proper focus. I do take the slack out of the trigger to the point that I could deliberately dry fire as if shooting on a range, but I do not actually dry fire. YOU WILL BE AMAZED WHAT TEN ITERATIONS OF THIS DRILL WILL DO FOR YOU! JUST TEN! Ten iterations takes only 15 minutes. I can make the sticky note disappear so much faster in just 15 minutes, it's just amazing.

Just stumbled on this video and had to subscribe immediately. Focusing on the front sight will help out a lot; my problem is eye dominance, I find myself not trusting the sight picture if I don't close my left eye. Thanks for the video.

I am practicing at the range several days a week preparing myself to qualify for firearm state certification to carry on the job. I qualified for my CCW using the sight picture training outlined here. The state firearms qualification is more combat style shooting using the target as your picture.

Very GOOD video. What I've found to be hard is, I bring my weapon up onto the target, my eyes go from target to front sight and with smooth trigger pull the round goes off with very good accuracy. Then the recoil, and it's this process of regaining the front sight onto the target that is the most difficult in timed 3-round sequence. Regaining focus after the first shot.

Practice meditation. Meditation is the act of learning to refocus your mind from distractions. Once your mind knows how to do this quickly...it will tell your eyes what to do. Practice at home!

Just got a new snubbie, can't wait to start trying this. I've heard to look at the front site, but now I know what that really means. Thanks.

Just ran into this. As a note, literally the next vid in in stream is “Do NOT focus on the front sight”! Good gouge.

Thank you so much for this. I'm starting in the world of practical/steel shooting and I can't wait to put this into practice on my first shoot this weekend. Thanks again for sharing the wealth of information and knowledge that you have acquired.

I bought and read your book awhile back. I think I even watched this video awhile back, but just watched it again this week and it really sunk in about focusing, really focusing (another shooting instructor used the word concentrating to take it even further) anyway it really sunk in this time and greatly increased my accuracy and grouping. Thanks!

Great Vid!!!,,,, You remind me of my "Very" first Weapons Instructor when I was in the "RCAC"(Royal CDN Army Cadets) at the tender age of 13, with his instruction, and my good "Eye", I almost made the "National" team to go to "Wembley" for the "Commonwealth" competitions,,,,Using a .303 SMLE!, We even had to "Master the "Mad Minute",,,,That "Training" stayed with me for the rest of my Military Career when I joined the "Regular" Army @ 17, We were handed 7.62 FN C1A1's,,,,@ 500 meters all of my shots were in the Black covered by the palm of your hand, and I stayed in the Black up until the 1500 meter mark,,,,,The "Trick" to firing well w/ the FN was proper setting of the "Gas Regulator" ,,,,,,,,,,AS Well as everything you mentioned on your Vid!, Bravo Zulu, Andy.
