If you’re unfamiliar with a fruit, do NOT buy an entire box of it. Buy a single fruit and try it out first. Korean pears are wonderfully juicy and lightly sweet. Satsuma mikan (tangerines) are insanely sweet and delicious when they are in season. I love trying to get the skin off in one piece because they slip right off. They are by far superior to the more widely available “cuties”.

Yeah had to wait till almost the end to realize this was dedicated for USA. Here in (Eastern) Canada we go to cash and carry's for bulk items as they supply restaurants thus having cheapest prices and best quality. They traditionally cost 1/2 (out of season) to 3/4 (in season) less than those at bulk stores like Costco (per example 15lb russet potatoes at Costco 10.95$ whereas a C&C is 50lb for 17.99$ or 25lb for 9.49$). Best mangoes (flavour wise) are Alfonso variety imported express (by plane) from India. Nothing else compares.

Asian / Latino stores are way better than American ones for a good reason: they’re not a massive corporation who only cares about quantity vs quality. I’ve been to a few hmong and karen stores and everything there is always fresh, cheap and amazing quality. Even imported goods they get are better, because they care about the quality and making the customers happy. Walmart and Hyvee though? Processed foods, junk food and sugary beverages are always on sale, vegetables/fruits are sprayed with herbicides and pesticides so they are poor quality, and nothing is ever fresh or frozen well. It’s always wilted, rotten, moldy or ruined

Every time my husband (he’s Indian) and I go to the Asian grocery, he tries to sneak a durian into the cart. No sir! Once he bought a durian smoothie from their cafe and thought he could sneak it by me. I was pregnant. I made him hold it outside the car window until he finished it. Then he had to stop and toss the empty. So, buyer beware at the Asian grocery. Most of it is heavenly (sponge roll …mmmmmm), but occasionally you’ll find a surprise. 😂

The green red mangoes, we also have it here in the Philippines but when it ripens, it's not the same as the ones in the US. Ours doesn't taste the best when it's ripe. The green red ones here are eaten unripe. We peel the skin, chop the flesh in bite size pieces and pair it with something salty like salt, bagoong (salt fermented tiny shrimps), patis (fish sauce) or even soy sauce. The unripe green red mangoes here have a crunch like an apple, jicama, carrots or cucumber
