Excellent quality video. I take off a little more sideways but this is really good information. Another drill I recommend is setting up a string or a stick horizontally in front of you when learning that you're forced to jump over before you sideflip to prevent "diving".

easy way to fix landing backwards or learning to undo the rotation: your front elbow is hitting your abs when landing in a backwards position. your front elbow is hitting your ribs when landing sideways. your front elbow is hitting your lats when landing straight. try adjusting your shoulders accordingly.

Yeah I struggled with that a lot as well! I don’t know how much this will help, but I’d recommend throwing whichever shoulder/arm is your trailing shoulder for the Sideflip directly up and around for the rotation and focusing on keeping it from being thrown sideways at all. It’s hard to properly explain this, but I hope it helps.

Running Sideflips will be easier because that running start allows you to block which provides more height and torque, so yeah that makes sense! Standing sideflips are a good test of technique and strength because they require more effort.
