Hit the woods all day on middle TN public land opening day. Came back with a empty hand. Gave thanks to God for the day. Did see a squirrel, a coyote, and for the first time while hunting, a bobcat. Left all three vertical as I didn’t want to spook deer. Praising God for His creation.

I'm extra poor. Lol. I fire a shot at 25 yards, dial the scope to the point, & try another shot. If it's right there I move to a 100, & do it again. Usually within 1.5 moa at 100. That's more than enough for the short range hunting I do around here. 3 moa at 200 yards may seem huge to some but it keeps me well within the vitals of everything around here.

Now who tee you know the average deer catcher doesn’t own any of those gadgets.. gun vise, lead sled, laser bore sighter.. you gotta show the old school way.. i did one for a friend today the old school way and got it sighted in @100 yards in five shots. One at 25 yards after bore sighting by eye on a front bipod and rear bag laying prone.. made a small adjustment.. took the first shot a 100.. was 5.5 inches high and 3.25 left.. made those adjustments then shot a 3 shot group.. used the range time app to tell me how far the average POI of those three shots were from desired POI..turns out average POI was a 1/4 inch off desired POI.. made one final adjustment and sent him home with it.. 5 shots total. No laser. No gun vise. Which is the boat I think many hunter are in.

He has videos using non gadget techniques like bore sighting. And why would you claim the average hunter doesn't own any gadgets then proceeds to announce you have a phone app? Isn't that a gadget in itself?
@mississippimotorsports3286
10 ай бұрын
@@dickdastardly8150 yeah you’re correct it is a gadget.. but it’s a free gadget and easily attainable for anyone can be downloaded in minutes.. now I will admit that some old heads who aren’t handy with a smart phone probably wouldn’t be able to use it.. but a laser bore sighter, a lead sled, and a gun-vise = hundreds of $$$.. Rangetime app is free…
@mississippimotorsports3286

@@dickdastardly8150 not to mention it could’ve been done without the app.. the app just saves you some time measuring and doing math.. I could’ve measured the distance each shot of my three shot group @100 was from the desired POI then did some math and got the average of my group then adjusted.. the app just does the measuring and math for you is all

I have been using the Wheeler version of yours and love it. I may be so bold try doing it the other way around. Vice the firearm up, use a sheet of .25 grid paper, tack / tape it on your target stand, use Sharpie to mark the laser dot, count the .25 inch grid squares in the direction of desired sight zero, return to unmolested vice and adjust optic to second dot. One and done! Use different color markers for clarification. Saves a little wear on the tennie runners and alot of frustration trying to make fine adjustments on large mechanical vice.

... most of the scopes on my centre fire hunting rifles are 1" dia Leupold hunting scopes without an external parallax adjustment capability ... the parallax is factory set to the standard 100 yds so my zero range is 100 yds ... I use the old fashion Bushnell Bore Sighter with the expandable metal arbours that fit in the barrel to bore sight the scope ... that usually gets me on paper @ 100 yds ... then it is a simple scope adjustment to shift the POI to "0" ... I won't wear out a barrel or empty my wallet buying ammo to chase 1/2" more accuracy ... if the load being tested gives me a repeatable 1.5 MOA or less 3-shot group @ 100 yds ... good enuf ... after all I'm hunting animals the size of a roadside bill board ... 1/2" gets lost in the dust

Not that it matters much, the distance from your rifle scope height reticle center, over center of the bore is the magic number yes? Then you turn on the laser and verify at the desired distance and your done. Correct. However it appears that everyone is (all over the map) using short range lase bore sighting footage. 10yd and 25yds by you and other are at a 35yds distance, which with bullet drop get us on paper (only) final adjustments are (always) live at the range. Everyone seams to think that the lase is the end all and final zero (NOT)

@camwinston5248

On a good quality scope, zoom will not make a difference in sighing in or point of impact. If it helps when sighing in just zoom up all the way..sight in and for research and reassurance shoot one for point of impact at the lowest setting.

All about those groups. Good grouping tells you the rifle is precisely tuned to that ammo. Hitting a bullseye doesn't tell much. Only shows how "accurate" you are with gun. But the weapon must be tuned for the ammo first.

Every laser bore sight I’ve ever gotten, had and or ever used, be it the caliber specific kind that goes into the chamber or the kind that has the caliber specific plastic piece that goes onto the rod that goes into the barrel at the muzzle, the laser itself has never been centered. Using the last kind I mentioned as the example, though this has been my experience with them all, if I spin it while it’s in the muzzle, it makes a nice circle. And of course the father distance you check it at, the bigger the nice circle it makes. lol But then hey, it is only meant to get you on paper though now isn’t it. lol
