They may use that when singing background but I like to see you use that "technique" and actually say words clear enough that people can understand the word. Like in ring of fire when time says "Fire" at the end and can clearly understand the word. This technique explains the low humming but that is all.

So I done it like this. I hit a deep note in my chest area like an G2 und then change it to a growl G1 in the same breath. By doing this I gained more control of hitting a significant note. I increased the difficulty by changing notes while growling and I can say that I'm quite good at it now and can cover deep base lines from avi and Tim. But because I practiced too much sometimes I hurt my throat a little.

Hope I'm not too late to ask this, but whenever I try growling, it's SOO airy! If I try recording myself, it just sounds like I'm breathing heavily and there's virtually no actual sound produced, yet I can feel the vibrations, and hear it as I do it (like, straight from my mouth to my ears) Is this normal? I've only ever recorded myself using my phone and the mediocre Apple headphones that came with it, would it sound different if I recorded myself with an actual microphone? Or Am I just doing something wrong? Sorry if I explained it poorly...

+David Larson What microphone are you using? And is that the pop filter that comes with it? Or did you buy it separate? I've mastered this technique as well as subharmonic and I can transition smoothly to subharmonics to sing down to an E1 very loud and clear. When I use the firebreathing technique it just shows up as air on most mics even with the pop filter, no matter where I direct the air. I need a new mic anyways so I thought I would give the one you use a shot because obviously it works well with yours

Live version of Natural Disaster - Avi hit an F#1 with it once - I got a little confused with what I was saying haha sorry. And Tim Foust does use growl for Ring of Fire. I know multiple people have made videos saying his G1's and F#1's are chest... However, I know multiple people that have performed with him and know him quite well, and I can confidently say that 99.9% of the time, Tim uses growl for Ring of Fire because he really can't sing below an A/Ab in chest voice. Thanks!

Listen to I Want Crazy live- see how long he holds that F1! No way he can hold a growl that long live. Trust me, growling for an extended amount of time is extremely hard. Also, just listen to his sing off low notes in Ring of Fire, and I Want Crazy- it sounds completely chest, no growling whatsoever.

+The Great Entertainer I can assure you the same as well (I know people lol), although some people on KZitem will believe what they believe - and those are the ones I don't feel like spending time arguing with ;) As for the concern that "there's no way he can hold a growl that long"... I can consistently hold one for about 8 seconds.... it's not impossible, it just takes practice. But people are often stuck on the "if I can't do then nobody can!" mindset, which is definitely the case here. ✌
