If I remember right, in S&G's version of Scarborough Fair, there are no harmonies. Paul Simon sings something entirely different (a sort of fugue), both in terms of music and lyrics, while Art Garfunkel sings the traditional folk song.

just this minute discovered this video, I'd always wondered what the vocals would all sound like separately. Hadn't thought about it for years though, so this just appearing on my homepage feed this morning was an absolute godsend. There's no better feeling than receiving the gift of the answer to a really, really old question that I'd never got any further with, but now, like magic, I have my answer. Fascinating. Now I'm wondering what it is going on there in music theory terms. Is PS singing in a major key with AG accompanying in the relative minor key? It's just so strange to hear them one by one and how different they are but, at the same time, how both seem to still roughly follow the same chord progression, just each one (perhaps?) in the relative major and minor scales? I would be fascinated to know what actually *is* going on, though, assuming it's nothing to do with the major/minor assumptions I've come to as the result of several minutes of pure layman's guesswork! Thanks!

Wish you would have done the upper harmony for the entire song because the upper harmony is definitely not a a duplicate of the singular part you demonstrated. Good for that one verse and hook though.

At 3:30 the higher harmony you sing is incorrect, it should rise from *E* to F# and G# whereas you sing *D#* to F# and G#. The higher phrase is also finished *both* times with E E E C# D# as opposed to what you sang in the first half D# D# D# C# D#.

Not really a lesson, is it? I mean, you really just take the song apart into the two tracks. What you're doing is more engineering, yes? I really want help understanding techniques of singing thirds, shadow singing, etc. Thanks for doing the videos; they are helpful. Are they actual lessons? hmmm. I give the thumbs-up either way for your work.
