Tenor (true tenor, not high bari) can't really sing below B2, it would sound like a bari trying to sing under G2 or F2. (yes there are some "tenor" that have their voice sit lower than others, they can sing B2 or A2 with more ease, but i really doubt that they are high baritone, try sing like a tenor.) Tenor CAN sing low, but it will sound unatural, and doesn't carry enough weight. There are some pro who can touch the extreme of the human voice - they can go really low or really high - but they've spent YEARS to develop their voice, and even that, that's still not their comfortable range.

Thanks Dr Dan for this video, I love this one. Recently while streaming I found myself wondering, how all the voices (men and women) of my generation are singing just high and targeting higher notes. Almost to the point where it starts sounding saturating and ones ears are tired out. Rich Low notes are so important, as they give a sweet contrast to the high notes, and works up the ears for those high belts. Almost all legendary singers had solid low notes as well, people tend to not notice that. This was a very important video.

For a good example of this, listen to Harry Nilsson. That guy could sing all over the vocal map, with amazing full voiced highs ("Without You") and awesome rich lows ("All I Think About Is You"). I am much more interested in well done low notes and simply good singers nowadays as opposed to the sensationalism, and reliance on, very high notes that get standing ovations on talent shows no matter how the rest of the song sounds even though “impressive” belting is so much easier (for me anyway) than cultivating good tone and enunciation. Can you maybe talk about how to stop a strong chest voice note from becoming breathy and gentle and almost a head voice sound/feeling? Or even if that should be an aim. I actually love that, but I want to learn to have the options available even in my lower register. I’m working on Toni Braxton stuff right now, it’s a challenge sometimes! Can do it breathy, and humming, but that’s all atm.
@Dhakadice

I always thought the lower registers were the hardest to sing. I can actually hold notes much longer in the higher range (like hold the high A through an entire guitar solo, both with and without vibrato) and I also get a fuller voice. In the lower range, I nail the notes, but I sound pretty much like a teenager (I'm really 34) because of my natural voice and holding longer notes also gets harder. I find that twang helps a bit with some problems, but it doesn't give me a full voice or anything. =/

But now that I have control of my high notes, I can’t seem to get my voice below a C2 most days. It’s been pretty frustrating to lose part of my voice just as I thought I’d gained a new part. In Indian Classical Music, singers practice low notes every morning and high notes in the evening. I just started learning 8 months ago and can sing F2 ( but only in the morning ). It is said if you practice low notes, singing high notes becomes easier.
@DrDanRobinson
Жыл бұрын
In many singing traditions, including Indian classical music, practising a wide range of notes can help improve overall vocal technique and flexibility. As you mentioned, some singers in Indian classical music practice low notes in the morning and high notes in the evening to work on their range and improve their overall control and endurance. When it comes to singing high notes, practising low notes can be helpful, as it can help strengthen the muscles involved in breath support, vocal cord closure, and resonance. By developing these fundamental aspects of your technique, you'll be better prepared to tackle higher notes and more complex vocal challenges. In addition to practising a range of notes, it's also essential to focus on other aspects of good vocal technique, such as proper breath support, posture, and articulation. It's also important to avoid strain or tension in your vocal system, as this can lead to vocal fatigue and potential damage over time. Suppose you're interested in further developing your singing skills. In that case, it may be helpful to work with a vocal coach or take classes in Indian classical music to get personalised guidance and support. They can help you identify areas for improvement and develop a healthy, sustainable approach to singing that works best for your unique voice and goals.

question, so, on most days i can make it down to about a Eb2~D2 but most of the time they're quite airy. but, at night time they seem to sound much fuller. is this because my voice is warmed up from me singing throughout the day? i usually only do a small 20 minute warm up. if it helps any im 18, thanks for anyone who can give me input!!

Thanks Dr. Dan. After singing for a sustained duration in the upper octave when you suddenly switch to a lower octave note the voice tends to wobble especially when you need to hold the note for greater than 5 secs. Is this normal ? What is happening here ? I donot have this problem when I am only singing lower notes. Its the high-low switch that is causing this I presume. Thanks.

Thanks so much for the video Dr Dan. I really like focusing on my lower range. My low end is currently hoovering around D2. I also enjoyed you top 10 Do not do list and one that caught my eye was not singing when sick. When I start to feel sickness coming my voice drops and it sounds better than ever. I try so hard not to push or stain my voice at the lower end when this happens but it’s hard not to sing because it just sounds so much better. I take it that I still shouldn’t sing in these cases but I’m wondering about the what is actually happening physically with my voice when I get like this?

Sgbacox, the reason your voice sings/sounds lower when you are sick is because of the swelling of the vocal folds, as well as the thickened mucosa throughout the vocal tract. Best to reduce your vocal loads at these times.

I have a problem. Whenever I’m singing, my voice wobbles a lot even tho I’m hitting the right notes. It also jumps every time I transition onto the next note, what exercise can I do or what video would you recommend to develop a consistent tone?

Can you tell me what voice type am I? My range is C2-E4. I have difficulty to sing in C2 and E4, cause they are my last notes. It's still hard to sustain them. I have resonance in low notes and they sound more beautiful than my high notes. I naturally have more low notes than high notes. This video was really helpful. Thank you!

An E2 is actually the average bass’ low note - if you google their range they usually should be able to hit E2 to E4.
