Oh wow....I've been using a double-thread technique this whole time because I didn't know any better. I thought that was the only way to sew and keep the thread in the needle. Wow....mind blown! 😮💨😵

The technique you've been using, double thread, is a good one and my preferred way to sew too! But sometimes when sewing finer things, such as hemming or holes in sweaters, a finer thread (single) is better. Thank you for your comment 😊!

Thank you for this! I've been trying to teadh myself how to darn with embroidery yarns, and quickly realized nobody ever taught me how to single thread. The bit of sewing ive done ive only ever done double, or knotting at the eye of the needle and wondering why my threads kept breaking. This tutorial was helpful without making me feel like an idiot for not knowing lol

If you use the last method to do multiple, layered knots, center the first knot at the top of your loop, you won’t really have to guide it to make new knots on top of it.
