yes very helpful. my problem with canter is that for some reason I always squeeze my thighs and knees and bring them up making me lose balance. I can't keep my legs down and long. and I always lose the stirrup and have trouble getting my feet back in them. (I'm more comfortable doing a canter without stirrups but my coach doesn't want me to do that.) the same thing happens when Im do sitting trot my knees always go up and I bounce and lose balance.

I have two problems with canter🤔 1. I don't know how to start canter from the right leg(for the horse) 2. I sometimes lose my stirrups I had those problems at the last stable I went to ride and it honestly was a terrible place for both learners and the horses couldn't go into paddocks and had to be in stalls all day unless they went to one of the "classes" and then there they wouldn't behave well ☹️ The trainers weren't very good either, so I'm searching for a new stable but also trying to understand my own mistakes. Really grateful I found this channel♥️

@@brookebarrett3306 I had a good experience as well. It keeps me going. Some three weeks ago I fell off again and it was pretty bad as I injured my hip. But still I didn't lose my motivation. Now I'm more settled in the upright position and also keeping my hands lower - seeing the difference is really helpful. I am very terrible with my canter at the moment. I have been doing horse riding for a year and a half to two years? And have definitely improved a lot but no where near really good or anything. I am scared if I sit up too straight I will lean back to much and fall but if I lean forward I have to grip hard or I will go over the top. This was really helpful because I do group lessons so they cant give you all the stuff you should improve on and I have found that they don't tell you the proper movements at my stables. (I am switching stables for other reasons not because of that) so yes I am switching stables hoping to get better results for my canter a d other stuff. I love this video. I've probably watched it 4 times lol. I just cantered for the first time at my new barn, and I had so much trouble with the transition. By the time the horse was actually cantering, I was off balance and leaning forwards. Yikes. I was wondering if you could maybe do a video on riding the walk-canter transition, and the trot-canter transition, as well as maybe cueing for the canter. I think I need to work at trot a bit more, but I would love a video like that, so when it comes time to canter again, I don't have that issue. Thanks in advance, I love your videos. :)

I really enjoyed your video and subscribed so that I can view more- do you make them often? The slow motion video was very helpful! I am an older rider (58) and I have been stretching my hip flexors regularly for the past 3 months; it is helping with my canter, but I'm have more work to do! I can see from the video that I need to sit up taller in the saddle, and RELAX! During lessons, my trainer reminds me to sit tall, and think of my body being pulled (like taffy) from the hips in opposing directions - but she also tells me to drive my horse more in the corners because I tend to "let off the gas". I want to achieve the fluid motion that comes from following the horse's motion, but when my horse needs to move more forward, how do I stay relaxed? I tense up as I'm using my muscles to tell my horse to go more forward- so how do I relax and work at the same time?
@JSHorsemanship

Hi Barbara😊 I’m glad you are enjoying the videos. I am planning on putting more out soon. I think it’s great that you are stretching your hip flexors to improve your riding. A lot of the skill required to follow the motion of the Canter while being upright is developing correct muscle memory. This takes time and repetition so be patient. I will definitely consider doing a video on this topic in the future. Keep up the good work💕🐴
