There's nothing like a meadow of wild flowers to feel that sense of summer all around you. The bee orchid is a rare and magical wild flower found in the Burren at this time of year that eluded me and my children, despite the promise of a cash reward, until a couple of years ago when we discovered them growing right in our back garden. I paid up!
You're not allowed to pick any orchids, but it's even more lovely to sketch them in ink and watercolour, because that way you have them forever. I have a nice easy approach to drawing and painting wild flowers: start at the top and work your way down, drawing each shape slowly and carefully as you go. If you make a mistake, correct it and carry on as if nothing has happened! Once you paint on top, you really won't notice mistakes, I assure you.
If you are a member of my sketching community, you are welcome to join my private Facebook group (it's called Sketch With Roisin), which you might find useful because not only can you share your sketches made from life there but it's where I post reference images of these little sketchalong videos.
Some members have said they find that really useful, so please don't be shy to request to join. Alternatively, just send me an email to sketchwithroisin@gmail.com and I will add you to the mailing list, where I send the reference image. You can then look at it on a separate device or you can print it off, as you prefer.
Reuben does absolutely nothing to earn his keep, so I have engaged him as an extra in my videos. I hope you find him worthy of his role.
Thanks for watching and enjoy the video!
Love, Róisín
