Sometimes you can't, or don't want to, leave the house, but you still want to sketch! Those busy fingers are itching to get inky. I love sketching my kitchen when the weather is frightful out, or if I am looking after someone, or have to be at home for some other reason.
My kitchen looks cute in this video, but it's not really the whole picture. Far from it! Look under the beautiful black granite counter and you will see gaping holes where cabinets should be, and in a kitchen if you have gaping holes, you have mess and clutter and - yes - dirt. My husband is one of those people who is brilliant at everything, including carpentry, but who has a very busy work life. The result? No cabinetry! I have some beautiful solid walnut drawers, but very little else. This used to break my heart, but I'm used to it now, 14 years later. (No cabinetry can be bought, either, as my husband can't pay for something he would do better, and for far less cost!)
It's a lesson in life: you can't always get what you want. So I try to make the most of what I do have, which is some very cool French stuff, and I love to sketch this gorgeousness.
Are you a fellow sufferer, married to a craftsman who can do everything, but can't because of time constraints? If so you have my sympathy! And in the meantime, cover up the annoying half-done bits with something cool...and sketch it!
The day I heard the phrase "cobblers' children have no shoes" it all made sense...
Happy sketching!
