I smashed my 5k pb last night , A kebab , 7 pints , a curry and then 2 family bags of crisps whilst watching Spider-Man on the settee in front of the fire . 5380 calories ! Smashed it 👍👍

Thanks for the vid! I’ve just been rocking up to parkruns with little or no in-between training, and assuming the only way to seriously improve would be dull and repetitive 5ks daily. I love this mixed approach! So my Q. is: can you give examples of cross training activities, please? Do weight or resistance training figure? Thank you!
@wiggle
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Karen 🙌 good cross training activities are swimming, cycling, yoga, cross-fit. Weight and resistance training is it arguably one of the best forms of cross training for any runner. It specifically targets the areas that are neglected or weakened by running - as well as boosting those leg muscles in a way that regular running doesn’t. Hope that helps! Enjoy 💪

A lot of my friends are training for half marathon or marathon distances, and their weekly long runs are typically 10-20 miles {16-32 km). I’m training specifically for fastest 5K races. What is an appropriate distance for my weekly long runs? Thank you, anyone and everyone. 🏃♀️I appreciate this video and interview.
@wiggle
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Burps - It really depends on whether you are already running 5k distances. As Beth says in the video, your longer distance run needs to be increased gradually. The 10% rule would be a good place to start, increasing your weekly mileage by no more than 10% than the previous week. So add the 10% distance onto your longer slower run. Hope this helps.

@@wiggle Thank you, Wiggle. I did catch that part of the interview, but i wasn’t clear…for a seasoned runner, capable of running, say, 20 miles on a long run…what should be the total distance of the long run in the weeks before the taper for the 5K race. 7 miles? 10 miles? 15 miles? Thanks for any input.

Thanks Beth. So to clarify, if 3 running sessions/ wk, one could be intervals say 10x 400, another could be a 5-10k at slower pace and a third, a Parkrun 5k; with maybe 3 spins on the road bike of 30-90 mins in between?
