In this part 2 of 'How to Smuggle Data out of the Network with Ping', we demonstrate how to use ping packets to smuggle data out of a network on a Windows machine. We use the built-in ping command along with a PowerShell script to encode text characters into ping packets to quietly get them through firewalls.
We cover some theory, how to setup the script, how to capture traffic on the remote end with tcpdump, and how to decode your message.
