Great video! Rabbit digestion is actually highly inefficient at taking nutrients out of their food. It is fast but it leaves a lot of nutrients in their droppings which explains why they eat their own pellets.

Great video, but here’s a little tip, I wouldn’t step in the trail because once the rabbits find out something was on there trail they will not likely take the same route again

Actually, Lyric, we’ve found that when the snow is deep, and we walk and pack their trail, they use it even more, following the path of least resistance.

Gord Pyzer Great video, and ya you are right, but per say it was a predator , the snowshoe hares will not likely take the route again, great video 👍🏻

See i was always told that snared bunnies tasted bad, Maybe the blood? IDK usually just walk around with a 22. last week of october or to first week november right before the snow (usually) and shoot them as they're white. And if by chance a partridge shows up, well that's a bonus :) great way to scout for deer hunting too.

Hey there, loved the video. I had a question, when the hare is found frozen, do you thaw it out before skinning and gutting or is there some other way to do it? Thanks!
@CanadianAnglingAdventures

Yes, I just thaw them enough to skin and prepare for cooking. If we're not eating them right away, I package them up and put them in the freezer.

what gauge wire? 20? thanks
@CanadianAnglingAdventures
7 жыл бұрын
The regs say it must be 22 gauge but the big box stores (CTC) carry rabbit snare wire in the hunting section and it is 20 gauge. To be honest, I've never had a rabbit break the wire, but I have had some snares broken after a rabbit was caught and when we closely examined the area around the snare we found lynx tracks. And there was never a sign of the rabbit, except an "unlucky" foot! :

If you put the chin stick and the coral, the trap uni directional. If the trail is going both ways, how do you guess which way they will come?

Seriously? Whatever happened to setting the snare from the side of the game trail? You never stand on the trail of ANY game animal you're setting for. gtfo

The more snow and the more the trail is beaten down, the more they will stay right in your tracks. Give it a try and you'll see what I mean. They are smart and take the path of least resistance!
