If you were my math Professor during high school and college, math would have been so much more enjoyable!!! Thanks for breaking this down!!!! I definitely have a better understanding of how percentages work! I was never explained that the orignal amount is ALWAYS 100%. Thank you so much!!! =)

I had a problem where I knew the final amount and the percentage that it had been decreased by, but wanted to find out the original amount. I did solve the calculation, and I think this technique would have helped a bit. In the case of a 15% reduction to get the final amount, you would have gone 100/85 to get 1.17647 or 117.65% and then multiplied it by the final amount to get the original amount.

I have to admit that I would not have done it this way. Although I got the same answer and I was correct, nevertheless, I used a different method. I just calculated 10% of £1,000 which is £100.00 and then multiplied it by 2 and came to £1,200.00 I know the video may show the official way of doing things but it is not the only way of doing things.😊

Thank you for the video, but very bad example of interest and savings. It is my worst nightmare, I have to explain customer after customer that IS NOT how the interest is calculated and they WILL NOT receive the amount that you are talking about. Banks will pay you yearly, however, the interest is calculated daily, many times compound monthly and/or at the end of the term.

Let us say we have $200. The value after 20% increase would be > 200*1.2 = 240 1.2 is a result of 100% + 20% = 120% VThe value after 20% decrease would be > 200*0.8 = 160 0.8 is a result of 100% - 20% = 80% The actual value of 20% > 200*0.2 = 40

You know you could have just said 1000 x 1.20= 1200 100% + 20%=120% . just covert to a decimal and get 1.20 200 x 117.5% or 200 x 1.175= 235
